Ok, my mom drives a 1987 Ford Ranger. Things have been happening to it and my dad always fixes them with used parts. Friday night, the transmission went out and now he wasnt to sink the money into fixing it. We paid 500 for the truck but its rusting and other things are still bad. To repair it, its about 1200$ with labor. So instead of repairing a dead truck, My mom wanted to buy a new truck. A 1995 Chevy Blazer 4x4. I just want to see what everyones opinion is.

Or you can buy another 87 Ranger that has a good tranny, and that way you won't have to worry about buying parts again.

Get a new truck. The costs of repairs is more than the truck is worth.

I'd purchase the '95 Blazer. The payment will still be less than a new truck and the previous owner has already taken the hit on depreciation. With new car monthly payments averaging between $350-$475/mo.for most people, it makes more sense to purchase a newer used vehicle for less and put your money into that . Besides, there is plenty to choose from in the want ads, or your local car dealers, and there also is an oversupply of used cars on the market,(from trade-ins, lease returns, etc,) thus keeping prices from going too high.

If the Ranger was otherwise in good shape, it might be worth it. But with lots of stuff starting to go wrong, it's time.
New(er).
New(er).

put a 350 in it with a new trans, tub it out, and put a stroker on it.

when my 300 dollar rust bucket died, i bought a new car. No point fixing something that'll break down again.
