Iraqis help themselves

One of thing I've always wondered is why the Iraqis don't see that most of the deaths caused by terrorists are deaths of their fellow countrymen. I had hopes that after an election, Iraqis would realize that they are responsible for their own freedom. People elected would be held accountable for the freedom, security, standards of living, etc. Of course this wasn't a typical election where people are elected to office, but it can still have some of the same effect.
And now I read this:
Citizens of Al Mudhiryiah (a small town in the "death triangle") were subjected to an attack by several militants today who were trying to punish the residents of this small town for voting in the election last Sunday.
The citizens responded and managed to stop the attack, kill 5 of the attackers, wounded 8 and burned their cars.
3 citizens were injured during the fire exchange. The Shiekh of the tribe to whom the 3 wounded citizens belong demanded more efforts from the government to stop who he described as "Salafis" source (http://iraqilibe.blogspot.com/2005/02/iraqi-citizens-kill-5-terrorists.html)
Looks like freedom might be taking it's toll on the terrorists. Let's all hope this trend continues! :bigthumb:
Hmmm, haven't seen this on FNC or CNN yet... :nono:

Yes, hopefully the people will come to realize that they have control over small groups of terrorists, simply because they choose to do something rather than nothing.
I'd hope this story makes it to the media!!!

Ever considered the possibility that the US is getting a bad press because the actions of Bush and co richly deserve it?

Yes I have considered it but it is vogue now to trash the US and anti-US makes the media money. It has been this way before Bush and it will be this way after Bush. There as been a lot of hatred towards the US for a long time and any shot that can be given to the US will be given. The US is the big boy on the block and everyone likes to take a shot at the big boy so to speak.

CLASSIC blinkered answer.
Can't possibly be a murdering liar that the world hates, must be America.
Such a pity this forum didn't exist befor Bush cheated his way into office, I think you would have found that the rest of the world had a much more tolerant view of 'America' under the last two Presidents.

I never said the world didn't hate Bush did I? More countries hate the US now than before but there has been hate towards the US and what it stands for, for decades before Bush and Clinton. I'm sure countries such as Iran didn't just start hating the US since Bush came into office. Just like the French have disliked the American people for along time. All this hate has been around longer than we have been alive.
Now the biased media is at fault for some of this. Take for example during the cold war era the media shaped the Americn public's opnion that Russia was evil. We had hatred towards Russia and Russia didn't invade any countries when this hatred started.
There is alot of hatred towards the American people, not because the people did anything but because we are the big boy on the block. We have the power to push and shove to get what the American people need and that fact pisses off countries. its the power that the US has that is the problem.

^It's not "the power" that is the problem, it's the irresponsible and completely reckless and self-serving manner in which it is used and abused that spawns hatred. And the American people ABSOLUTELY DID do something to incur this increased wrath (at leat 51% of them)- they elected this nut to a second term. You know, GOD FORBID any conservative EVER take the blame for the consequences of their actions. NOOOO. It's the media. It's the tempermental French. It was like this when I got here. Christ, it's absolutely sickening. Don't shit where you eat Flatrater. You ever hear that expression? That is exactly what the U.S. has done. Acknowledge it.

Nicely put, but please watch the language.Certain members get royally uptight when they don't like the message.
We have the power to push and shove to get what the American people need and that fact pisses off countries.
Wrong again...it's not the possession of such powers that piss us off, it's the abuse of them.America has everything it needs, but because of generations of spineless politics, it continues to piss away its oil stocks
on cheap gas and superfluous military action.
The US is one of the biggest consumers per head of resources, and the US military is the world's single biggest user of oil. Does it not strike you as immoral that the principal reason for the current abuses in the Middle East is to secure more oil supplies for the country that is claiming to be working in Iraq's inrterest?

What do the American people need? Freedom? You save you've got it.
Land? Plenty there.
Security? Shit's worse now than before you started invading.
Oil? ooooh...
