This car has a gadget that "bings" constantly if you open the driver's door with the ignition key in.
The sound comes from the right side footwell (it's righthand drive) but even if I get my head right down there, the sound is non-directional and I can't make out which little device is producing the infernal racket. Can anyone please describe(for a dummy) what the device looks like and where it is located.

It beeps to let you know that you are about to exit the vehicle with the keys still in the ignition. It prevents you from locking your keys in the car.
True, you aren't always exiting the vehicle just because you've opened the drivers door, but your car doesn't know that.
