95 Dodge Neon Problems

I have a 95 Dodge Neon that rev's upto 2.5 - 3 while idle then drops back down to 1 then up again....and so on. Also there seems to be water comming out of the tail pipe. It was in a flood but that was a couple of years ago it quite working for about 6 months but since then has been running fine with the few exceptions. If anyone has any help its much appreciated. but the water out of your pipe is normal its just condesation it happens with all cars

first thing I would do is remove your throttle body, and remove the two screws holding the aic valve...pull it out and with a spray can of injector cleaner clean up the aic valve (dont push on the plunger) and clean all the passages in the throttle body itself..reassemble ...make sure the O ring under the TB is in place and reinstall, if that doesn't help get a haynes manual and test the sensors...good luck

you'll have to bear with me now i am just getting into cars and learning as i go so i dont know what the aic valve is and i take it by TB you mean throttle body? I have a chilton but im not sure what the haynes manual is. Im going to pull off the throttle body and then take a peak at whats under, im a pretty quick learner so i can probley figure it out, but i am intrested to know what the aic stands for. The chilton manual will do fine...it should show you the aic (air idle control sensor)...remove the two screws that secure it to the TB (throttle body) and clean the actual sensor and the area it goes into with tb clean...also while you have it off clean all the holes and the complete tb at this time...the only tricky part is to make sure the Oring is seated and you don't disturb it when reinstalling the tb...aslo the two bolts that hold the tb down are torqued to 200 inches..if you don't have a torque wrench that is calibrated in inches ask around to borrow one or you may be able to rent one from autozone..you'll get your deposit back when you return it...good luck

does it have to be torqued to 200 inches? what happens if its not torqued

I am a firm believer in torqueing to specs...you are working with aluminum casings and the last thing you want to hear is that loud snap of a bolt breaking or actually pulling the thread out and stripping something...also if you have issues of somethig not working right after you "think" you corrected the problem you can rule out that its not tight enough or that it is too loose..and just to add this, when you are working around an engine the torque spec is there when the engine is cold...as the engine heats up and all the components start to expand these specs are taken into consideration and you wont have a worry of warping or it expanding enough to snap anything when hot...

well since you put it that way...... lol i brought it in to the shop where i work our next door neightbor is Desiel Innovations so i can get the torque wrench from them. What year is your neon, i have heard that 95 and below will not pass inspection. What can i do to ensure that it will?

My daughter has a 96 DOHC...just a few bugs in it every now and then...as for the inspection as long as it meets all specs for your state it should have no problems passing...we have emissions testing where I live and we haven't failed yet...

my 95 neon hasnt failed an emmisions test yet.....

I have a similar revving problem. Does your car do the revving (also known as hunting) when first started? Or, does it do the revving after the engine is warmed up. My revving occurs after it is warmed up. Cleaning or replacing the aic may be the solution. I have not tried it, yet, but it appears to make the most sense. I was also wondering if you get a misfire code? If you solve the revving problem, please write back and tell us the solution. Thanks,

Thanks to Fractured1 i pulled out my aic and gave it a good clean with some throttle cleaner and at first it still was acting up but the next time i started it, it runs great! Unfortunatly i am having problems with my ac clutch kicking on and off every 45 seconds when i turn my ac on, but i think i have a leak in my ac system, dunno if that could be the problem.

It sounds like your AC needs charged...if you really want it to stop until you get it charged just unplug the ac at the actual pump, believe it to be two connections...good luck and yes it is a tight squeeze...

know of any good tricks to get old oxygen sensors off? Can you clean one once it gets old or do you have to replace it?

Some heat and a good O2 sensor socket...no always replace them, and when you do replace make sure to use antisieze on the threads before installing them, alot of O2 sensors come with it (antisieze) already on the threads

The cars kinda shakes while i drive down the road is that just the tires needing to be rotated?
