Shake at 50 MPH

I have a 95 Passport with 122k. It has a vibratration at 40-50 MPH when it hits overdrive. It does not do it during excelleration only while maintaining highway speed. The transmission shop said it might be the engine. I just changed the wires,plugs,fuel inj,coils,alt. Any suggestions?

Could be out of round wheels, front end out of alignment, wheels out of balance.

The drive shaft could of tossed a weight.
If you drop the rear shaft you could take it to a drive shaft shop to have it blanced.
If you drop the rear shaft you could take it to a drive shaft shop to have it blanced.

Amigo-2K, The shake is comming from the front half of the car. could this still be the drive shaft?I also have moved the car out of gear when this happens, and it stops. This should eliminate the wheel balance and wheels out round. correct?I have noticed some talk about the center bearing. Could this be the problem, and is this a big job to do at home?

The centre bearing is located in the rear driveshaft. If you are certain that it is in the front, then this isn't the problem...albeit these things can *seem* like the front when really they are not.
You will know if you have said centre bearing if you lay on the ground and look at the rear driveshaft. If the middle of the driveshaft is connected to the frame, then you have one. Inside the point where it is connected is that bearing. They are quite expensive to replace, and most agree it's more cost effective to have your driveshaft made into a one piece unit.
Grab the driveshaft near the middle. If there is excessive play, than that could be your problem (or at least part of it).

oops! I saw shake and I recently replied to a problem with another users rearend....
the only other thing I can think of is a bad tranny mount.

Sounds exactly like a bad carrier bearing. I had a bad one, thankfully during 12-13K miles, truck was still under warranty - dealership wouldn't believe there was anything wrong. They changed out the tires, rims, front end alignments, etc. then finally said there was nothing wrong.
I took the truck to a semi-truck/trailer driveline shop. Sure enough, the guy pinpointed the problem in a matter of minutes - dealership finally agreed to fix.
From my understanding, the 1st generation Rodeo's were famous for this issue.

Could my shaking front end be due to that carrier beam? My buddy just bought a '97 and it also has the beginning of the shake at about 50mph. Where is it so I can inspect that bad boy?

i have a '93 Rodeo with a very similar problem (See Thread "Tranny Problems on '93 Rodeo) Is yours an auto or a manual? also does the vibrate in any other gears other than overdrive? and is there any sound that accompanies the vibration?

The skake happens in drive and overdrive. I have determined its an engine problem. Cylinder #2 is not firing. The tranny is shifting fine its just when the engine reduces its load it skakes.
