if you can get a doner rear end it's just a swap as far as i know, as for conversion i'm at a loss.

It's a simple swap, if you have all the proper tools

Can you give more details on that Smokey?

Ok well I'm most likely buying a disc, lim slip, 3.42 complete rear. I was mainly askign about proportionary valve and master cylinder as my mechanic siad I'd need to switch those goign from drum to disc, but I've been talkign to ppl and searchign on camarov6 and the stock ones are fine, its just a swap.

Might do poly mounts for the trans and tq arm while im down there tho

Your mech is right, you should really change out the proportioning valve when doing a drum-to-disc swap, it changes the brake bias to how it should be for a rear disc car. Without putting in the prop valve you are still going to nose dive a lot under heavy braking, which unbalances the car in a hurry. Its just safer to go with the correct prop valve, and you won't feel the full effect of the rear disc either if you don't change it.

Dunno, that's going against everyone I could find who has switched drums to discs of their 4th gen f-bodies. How much do they run tho?

Yeah you should really get an adjustable proportioning valve.. they are fairly inexpensive..

you can do it without one, like everyone else has.. But the chances are, they're rear breaks arent functioning at all (or very very little) as they arent receiving enough fluid pressure

How much is fairly inexpensive, because my mecahnic said that if I got one it'd be around 100 bucks. He told me today the reason he said id have to if because he knows 3 or 4 guys whove done the swap ("hot rod guys") and they all had to change the valve and the master he didn't say what years they were using tho.

the stock 4 wheel brakes parts are the exact same as the disk/drum (except for the obvious). the master cylinder, booster, proportioning valve, and the like are all the same. what u have to get is the calipers, brake lines, rotors, caliper support plates, e-brake lines, and i think thats it. you might want to look into the axles, i dont think they are different but dont quote me. the plates im talkin about are the hardest part to find, just cause you have to get em off a junked car. the brake lines i think you buy brand new if not get junked ones.

i suggest what i did: go to the yard and find a manual z28 or a Y87 v-6 camaro. the man z28s had a slightly taller gear and LSD (same with the Y87 rs camaros). if you dont care about gears you can just look for G80 (i think) is LSD. pre-97 is auburn, post is posi-trac. the problem i had with the junk yard is that the LSD i got was blown.

depending on how lucky you are you can prolly piece something together for less than 300 bucks. i also suggest upgrading the rotors and buying new calipers for the rear cause the junked ones could be seized (also happened to me). could be more cost-effective to piece together than buyin the entire rear, unless you can find a good z28 end with the gears you want...

Forgot to mention I'll most likely be buying a whole axle with stock discs, LSD and 3.42

like the 1LE 3rd gens...the upgraded rears used the same prop/master cylinder as the j50 rear drums cars...the rear disc cars were j65....just swap the rear...it will work fine

whoops ok my bad. I did not know that they used the same prop valve for drum and disc camaros. I just know from experience with s10s and hondas that they use diff ones for drum/disc cars

I'm thinking about this myself, actually I called a guy today about the rear end off a 93 Z28. I didn't get an answer though.
