Muffler

Has anyone changed the muffler by themeselves? I have a 1993 and unfortunately, with my past oil leaks, its a little messy down there. There's also a small exhaust leak since its really rusted and definitely needs to be swapped. My mechanice gave me a price of 220 bux for the muffler, plus 60 bux for labor...that was it, I was thinking in my head, go screw yourself.
I was able to get a quote for the muffler at Strauss Auto for $138 plus the gasket ($8) (tailpipe section). Is it a pain to get the rubber hangers off?
I would only bring to a muffler shop it its too tough....

the rubber hangers pull off. I have a 98 rodeo and got a Flowmaster 50 Series installed at a local muffler shop for $160 out the door.

I can't imagine paying over 200 bucks for a quality high flow muffler, a couple of gaskets, and your 4-5' tail pipe; including install.
What kind of muffler will stauss auto put on? If it is a generic one tha will need replacing in 2 years I wouldn't bother (unless you are planning on selling it in the next 12-18 months).

So where do I get an OEM style muffler without having to weld it? At 138 bux, you dont think thats good? I got a tailpipe already...just the muffler...

now that I reread your post I see it is 138 for the muffler and gaskets without the install. If that is a bolt on, I would say go for it!
But I still think the way to go is to find a mellow flow master (or the likes) and have is welded in.
