2004 Quest - Satellite Radio

I own a later model 2004 Quest SL that did not have the Satellite Radio option installed at delivery. Although, I verified that my vehicle is pre-wired for the Satellite Radio Kit by a sticker on the passenger's side door jam. The OEM Nissan Kit is going to be around $400 for everything needed if I purchase online. The service manager at my dealer said it would be about $120 for installation. I found Nissan instructions at one of the sites you can buy the kit on how to do the install so I was thinking about doing this myself. I was just wondering if others have successfully installed this kit themselves and what kind of challenges it involved. I am speaking of an OEM kit that is intergrated into the head unit which utilizes the "SAT" button, not an aftermarket device that uses an FM modulator. Please let me know if you can provide some useful feedback. I have installed full audio systems including aftermarket head units, amps, subs, etc in the past so I do not consider myself a complete novice with this type of thing. I know enough to be dangerous. :-)

I am just finding it hard to drop $400 on Sat Radio, another $120 for installation, and then $10-$12 a month for service. My wife already thinks I spend too much on electronics.

Yeah, don't you love the prices on OEM stuff? Most of the time, the OEM stuff is just plug and play. Of course, you could always get something like I sell to dealers. It's the Sirius Sportster with the car kit. No wires to mess with. Just plug it into power and tune it to a station and you're done. Granted it is via FM mod. but it's only $125 vs. $400

I had XM satelite when I bought the car and dropped it after the free couple months. The quality of sound was really poor compared to the cd. I want quality instead of quantity.
