Working on finishing up the mods and I'm getting ready for the coil packs, plugs and wires. I am trying to decide on the wires and wanted to know anyones opinion....

Taylor Spiro Pro - 8mm - $50
MSD Super Conductor - 8.5mm - $60
PRJ Performance - 10.4mm (uses Taylor Spiro Pro wire) - $116

I like the idea of the PRJ but are they really worth $116? I am leaning tward the MSD but let me know what you all think.

Thanx everyone!
Chris

Im sure that this is something you dont want to hear, but here it goes  Just trying to save you some money for other mod's

This is what ZZP has to say.

Aftermarket coil packs
The stock ignition on a Grand Prix is very good. So good that we run stock coil packs on all of our cars at ZZP. Failure rate of stock coil packs is almost zero and the spark output is extremely high. We have A/B dyno tested aftermarket coil packs and seen no difference in HP. We have seen many aftermarket units fail and when customers have a problem it's very hard to diagnose with 'extra' mods on the car.

Aftermarket Plug wires
Unless you have a problem with your stock wires, don't buy aftermarket ones. In our experience of working on GPs the failure rate of aftermarket wires is over 10 times that of stock wires. GM puts everything they have into making cars get the best mileage they can with the least amount of problems. A poor ignition system would increase emissions, which GM couldn't afford. This means plug wires from the factory are designed for high spark, low radio noise and excellent performance. All of the ZZP cars run stock wires.

Yea... I read that just recently. I really do have to change the plug wires as they have many miles on them now and need changing. The coil packs were more of an option so I am starting to think I'll hold off on the packs.

Being that I am going to replace the wires anyway... do you think OEM wires are the way to go? I figured the thicker wires would perform a little better but if they have a much higher failure rate then maybe I will just get the OEM wires.... decisions, decisions... :-)

Cool. Thanx again Big-L. I think it was you that helped me last time as well. :-)

While I have you reading this... let me ask you a really silly question. Do you have the Engine/SC cover on your motor? Is there any heat advantage to removing it? I was about to start dressing up my engine compartment and can decide if I should keep the cover on there or not.

Thanx again!!
Chris

Mine has been off for several year's.Think of it as a blanket. With it on it hold's in the heat and with it off,it will keep it cooler. What I did was removed the cover and place the plastic nut back on the stud,so I wouldnt lose it :naughty:

I run the MSD 8.5s on my 99 GTP. Well made and have had no problems. Agree with Big L on the coil packs and removing the S/C cover.
