94 Grand AM Fuse problem

My 94 Grand AM has recently had some problems. Last week I was driving to work and my dash lights went out. Later I realized that they are connected to my taillights. I replaced the fuse many times and it continued to blow. Finally I put some vaseline on all of the connectors of the taillights and the lights that are on the side. It worked for about 30 minutes and the fuse blew again on my way to work. Is there anything else that I can do short of changing the wires? Thank you in advance.

I had (have?) a similar problem on my 96, went through a fuse once a month for a while. I didn't really fix it though and prblem seems to have gone away. I suspect somewhere there is a short, just don't know where :cwm27: But I would guess the side lights

I have the same problem on my 96 GA SE and its really annoying not being able to drive at night.

I went throught all of the the lights and ckecked them. The side lights and the light for the license plates are all the same. They are all beginning to melt. I checked the wires around them and nothing. I put bulb grease in all of the sockets and nothing. I guess I will have to take it somewhere. When I find out what it is I will let you all know.

hi ! i had the same problem that the fuse of my lights would always burn and the cause of this was a bare wire touching metal .i had to change alot of wires to fix this problem ,it cost me an arm and a leg.

Travis2822, You have a short somewhere in the wiring, Did you put a larger fuse in by chance? If you did that may be one of the reasons for the melting wires. Even if you didn't put in a larger fuse the short is causing the wires to get too hot and causing the melt down. The only thing you can do is to trace the wiring to look for the short, could be a wire that got pinched or cut and is touching a metal ground or another bare wire. Electrical shorts can be very difficult to find but in your case I would try to find it before the wires get hot somewhere else and cause other damage.
