Odometer and Speedometer died

My odometer and speedometer died on my 84 vw rabbit, however my fuel guage and clock still work on my dash. Is there any way to fix this...maybe a switch or something needs to be replaced? Also my horn just started to honk by itself. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bill

Ive had the button fail, also could be a defective horn ring. The speedo/odo stops because a little plastic drive gear inside slips on it's metal shaft. Repair kits are available, but it's a tedious job.

The speedometer cable probably broke. It is fairly easy to replace.

The slipping gear is more common on the A2's. In addition to the cable there is a black box on the firewall that the cable runs through that sets the oxygen sensor light. The internal gears on the box can fail.

I could only find info relating to a Beetle, but the problem is the same & reair is similar. I know there used to be kits available to replace the gear (this site shows glueing it). Perhaps some of the soeedo repair websites still have the kit available.
