Help! Clunk Sound! 88 3rd Gen Lude!

Okay heres the problem, it seems that this only hapens when its cold (50's) when I go to brake, even lightly it tends to make a loud "clunk" sound, it ussually only happens under 25mph, it will also do it with downshifting. It sounds like its connected to the floor board what ever it is and it sounds plastic.

Sounds to me like a motor mount or two. Im not sure what the plastic sound might be. Maybe your wireing harness loom moving with the motor.

Its pretty loud, looms are small and flimsy, how would I check the motor mounts? Im running out to the car right now, thanks, I've kind of been fearing that since that ussually costs a lot.

Motor mounts arent very costly and easy to do yourself. The fron and rear motor mounts are located at the front and backsicde of the motor. There is also one on each side. I would say its the front or rear or both. You may have to pull the stock intake to find the rear mount if you have a stock intake

I checked it out and they seemed fine, the engine does rock a lot when you floor it (by pulling the rottle lever with the hood open) but thats pretty normal ussually. It doesn't make sense to me either that it would occur when the engine is in nutral (idle) to have it jerk and make a big clunk sound during braking. I think it might be something else.

I woulda guessed motor mounts too. Since that's not the case I'd guess tranny mount? My third and last guess is a loose brake caliper. The caliper on my CRX was hanging loose for a long time before I found it - every once in a while it would make that "clunk" sound you described.

its not just a clunk, there is a noticible shake to the car too, what ever it is its got a lot of force. Im still looking into it, I'll have to crawl under the car today and take a good look around. Im thinking the sway bar might make sense.

Also how would I tell if the motor mounts were good? I mean they look fine and the engine seems to be in place, but I could be wrong.
