hey guys... i have a 1991 prelude si with the b21a1 2.05L in it. im already having to swap it over to a b20a5 cuz of my motor is knockin bad, but at any rate, i noticed that anytime that i push my motor 4500 rpms or beyond and try to shift, it just grinds really bad and wont go into gear until i let my rpms go down under 4500. my friend thinks that it might be my syncro's startin to give out. I'm hoping maybe theres somethin that might be a bit less expensive and quite a bit easier to fix than that... but at any rate id appreciate any input that you guys might have. thanks ;)

Start with the cheap stuff first. Check your shifter cables to see if they move freely. Check your shifter to see if it is binding up anywhere. Otherwise it could be syncro's

There is some product called synchromesh that has been getting alot of positive reviews. I don't know all the details about it but it is supposed to almost be a miracle cure for the tranny. I haven't researched too much into it so don't blast me if it is bogus.

I doubt it since I heard about it on the 3000GT/Stealth boards. People over there have been using it and getting good results. Also, if it was manufacturer specific, there should be something on the bottle that says so. As far as I know, there isn't.

Synchromesh is made by Pennzoil, originally developed for GM and Chrysler trannys. It's marketed under a few different brand names: Pennziol Synchromesh, Quaker State Synchromesh (Quaker State is part of Pennzoil), Texaco Synchromesh, GM Synchromesh, or AC Delco Synchromesh (part number 89021808).
Developed for GM and Chrysler, but I've read it also improves the performance of Mistubishi trannys. I've also heard it works well on Honda transmissions too.

I was having the same problem and figured why not try getting a bottle of the syncromesh, being that it's only $5. A mechanic friend of mine recommended it. So far my tranny seems to be doing better, but I really only drove the car back to school, which is only 70 miles, and mostly highway, so not a lot of shifting. But like I said, it seems to have helped a lot. For $5, it's worth a shot.

Im sure the fluis will help prolong the life of the tranny but there is no such thing as fix it in a bottle.

Yes I agree. It feels a little smoother now, and I'm just hoping that it now won't get any worse. But like I said, for $5, it's worth a try.
