new to this forums with some questions...

hello everyone! this is my first post on this modeling forum and i just wanted to say thank you to everyone on here and its because of you all that I have gotten back into building models again. I know Im not the best out there but I try my best and I like my results. I just have a couple of questions....

1. has anyone made a turbo or exhaust out of solder? and if so how do u attach it to the motor?

2. what is a good putty for general filling and scratchbuilding things such as bodykits or sound systems?

Welcome to AF! Thanks for that 1st question, I was wondering myself. I use gunze putty and some squadron. I guess you can use that for your neds.

The FAQ is your frend. Read it and the old guys will be too. advice

1. Super glue can be used to bond solder and plastic, if that's what your question is asking. If you are wondering how the turbo is setup, try google's image search. You'll be able to find generic diagrams easily.

2. You should be using two different kinds for general filing and scratchbuilding. For filling gaps, use super glue, or solvent based putty. Solvent putty slightly dissolves plastic, so it blend well with plastic. Tamiya's basic putty, Testor's contour putty and Squadron's green putty are common.

For scratchbuilding, use epoxy or polyester putty. Unlike solvent putty, which shrinks by losing its solution, epoxy and polyester depend on chemical reaction, so the shrinkage is almost negligible. Epoxy putty is like clay, and you can shape any object with your fingers. Polyester putty (aka automotive body filler) is paste-like, and you apply a big chunk of volume, and carve to the final shape. Which to use is up to you, so go buy all three kinds and experiment.
