hey guys i was thinking bout how much a tranny makes a difference in a car. i was wondering if anyone had lets has a b18 with the ls tranny and swapped a sir tranny without any other mods. to see what difference just the tranny would do. i guess the reason why the sir is faster than the b18, would be cause of the tranny, right. if a b18 had the same tranny as a b16 would they be equaly fast. just something that made me think a bit..

Yes the tranny would make a difference but the siR has 160HP and 111TQ compared to 130Hp And 121TQ. I've beaten a CRX with B18A and a siR Tranny, I mean he took me off the line but I caught up and passed him by like 1 1/2 cars. And I have a JDM B16A1 in a 91' CRX

yes a b16 trans will make yoru b18a faster but your not going to beat a b16 just because of a tranny change. and with the shorter gearing and the early redline of the ls, your going to top out that tranny earlier. the b16 tranny is meant for high revving motors

ya thats tru about the reving part. but they only have about 20 hp more and like 10 less lbs or torque. so i figured it could have been more or less equal. good to know though. so i guess i am better off to stick with the ls tranny with turbo or something. thanks guys

No, you're better off to go with the SiR tranny.. Even with a turbo.
Shorter gears = faster
B18s with an SiR tranny are quick, with an LS tranny they aren't that spectacular.

its better to get a gsr or type r tranny than a b16. the b16 tranny isnt built as strong as the ls gsr or type r trannys. it may have short gears but it cant handle power as much as the b18 trannys. I would get a type r tranny if you can.

if you are going like 300whp or less with an ls. the b16 tranny will do fine. just dont try and use it to run 10s with an ls motor.

acctually they are probably built more tough in as for the internals. but i am not sure.
ya i really like the ls tranny for the street and highway, so i am not sure what to do. casue i drive alot with my car.and the ls tranny is easy to come accross. i guess the best way is to acctually try one out.i figured to get the best of both worlds would be to build the engine more and to stick with the ls tranny for drivability.:banghead:

the only trans that is stronger is the type r because of hte lsd. hondas are known to break stock diffs, but an lsd makes it good

No doubt. Other than the gearing ratios and the FD, I'm sure there's no REAL difference between a B18 and B16 tranny, other than a couple of them comming with LSD as mentioned. Some B16 trannys were also available with the LSD.

They are both running the Y1 B16 tranny.
The vehicle with the B18b takes off the line and jumps out by 1.5 cars with the 18 extra ft/lbs of torque. The B16a falls behind and is unable to catch up. Why? Because the B18b is running the B16 tranny which is the only advantage the B16 has over the B18b.

The only reason that any 92+ bseries tranny is "better" is because it has a slightly larger input shaft and can handle slightly more power...nothing to brag about. So yes, in that sense, it is a little stronger than the 89-91 b16 trannies from japland.

Maybe. Maybe they suck at driving, maybe you have a better clutch, or less weight, or maybe you're just really good at driving. A 2.1 60' in a small Honda with stock tires is great, you have to know that.. I don't know hardly anyone who can hit 2.1s on street tires with as much power as you have, I just haven't seen it. Wow, I feel the same way. Whenever I race B16 rexes/hatches...they always seem to come up short on me....i have alot more fun racing GSR equipped crxs against my b20/y1 crx...it usually comes down to other factors besides the motor/tranny like driver, tires, weight, etc.

BamBam you only have a B20? Those motors are only good if you have VTEC. I ran circles around one in a 92 HB. I mob with a JDM B16A1 with a VTEC controller, Mugen Chip, Intake and exhaust only. And B18 are just a cheap way of going about a B16. Only Frankenstein motors are worth the money or a B16B/or a B18C5. Not to talk crap but I'm just throwing that out there.

What are you saying? What other motor is worth having in a Daily driven Honda? Besides a K20 or the Frankensteins? I have seen what people can do with these motors. My boy has his CRX SI with a 70 shot of NOS and I still beat him with two other people in my car. Shoot I was taught to drive at Sears Point RaceWay so I know I'm a good driver.

If you didn't know you can change your fuel curve as well as activate your VTEC sooner and by having this setup it gives you more power and makes your car run cleaner. But I'm sure you guys knew that (DUMBASS)!
