2002 SES Starter Problem?

Went out to start my 2002 SES today and all it does is make this loud clicking sound. Lights flash on the dash, but car won't start. Husband tried jumping it, but battery doesn't seem to be the problem. Is this a starter problem? How much in general does it cost to have fixed? Our luck never fails....just lost my job and this happens! Any information would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Or the name of a reasonable mechanic in the NW Valley in Phoenix.

I recently had the same problem w/my '02 SES. I could not start it with jumpers or an emergency battery pack. Took the battery out and to WAl-Mart for a check on the battery machine and it was bad. New $39 battery and the problem was fixed.
(be sure your terminals are clean before jumping to conclusions)
