are you looking for a upgraded turbo for a stock turbo car. or is your car non turbo now?
91 Eclipse

its is a non turbo engine right now.

is it a 2.0 NT or a 1.8 NT? you need to put all your car info in your sig so that we know what were dealing with. since you are NT you need a lot more then just the turbo
91 Eclipse
02-06-2005, 10:41 PM
it is a 1.8L NT 4 cyl. 16 valve DOHC engine
91 Eclipse
02-06-2005, 10:42 PM
sorry about all the confusion.
91 Eclipse
02-06-2005, 10:59 PM
also what all else do i need to put it in???

A whole new engine... 1.8l is worthless and nothing bolts up so you are going to need a lot of fabricaton!
91 Eclipse
02-07-2005, 12:17 AM
i heard the 1.8l was the same thing as the 2.0, same style mounts and engine style.
EclipseRST

Same mounts and everything, yes... Same flange for exhaust, no... Same head, no... Same block, no...

this guy had his message mixed up saying it was a 2.0L DOHC and a 1.8L DOHC, I emailed him saying it was mixed up and he replied it is a definite 1.8L DOHC engine.
91 Eclipse
02-07-2005, 01:33 AM
So can there be a 1.8L DOHC engine, Is it going to be close to impossible to put in a turbo, Could my stock exhaust fit on the 1.8L if its off of a 2.0L, and how much fabrication would it take to make it work.
EclipseRST
02-07-2005, 01:44 AM
No... All 1.8l mitsu motors are SOHC. If there is 2 cam gears then it is 2.0l DOHC!
What does it say on your valve cover? The metal cover that your spark plugs go into...

i know what that is but it was just a sample picture of of ebay thats why im kind of not knowing all about this thing i havent even seen it yet. Im just trying to figure out how hard it wil be to put a turbo on a 1.8L SOHC engine.
EclipseRST
02-07-2005, 01:53 AM
Its not going to be easy... Let a lone why would you? They are crappy motors to start with!
91 Eclipse
02-07-2005, 01:57 AM
well it was only 400 bucks, how much difference is there between the 2.0L the 1.8L engines anyway. im gonna contact this guy tomorrow and find out everything about this engine. As far as i know it could be a 2.0 or a 1.8. I want to turbo it so the engine wont be so slow and crappy.
91 Eclipse
02-07-2005, 01:58 AM
i know the stuff you listed before but can you really do anyhting to these 1.8L engines
tfoti
02-07-2005, 02:02 AM
Well i can tell you this: 1.8 = SOHC ~ 92 horsepower. The 2.0 = DOHC ~ 135 horsepower. If you decide to turbo a non turbo motor, which is not always recommended, go with the 2.0 FOR SURE!
91 Eclipse
02-07-2005, 11:01 AM
alright i dont know what it is yet ill find out today
91 Eclipse
02-07-2005, 11:03 AM
in the picture on ebay it looked like a 2.0l and in the description the guy said it was both which was essed up and i talked to him and he changed it and said it was a 1.8l DOHC which is non exsistent
Vtec95Civic
02-07-2005, 12:02 PM
Either way.. the n/a engines are weak and are gonna require a lot of work to turbo.
91 Eclipse
02-07-2005, 12:35 PM
so it would still be hard to put a turbo on the 2.0L DOHC engine to.
91 Eclipse
02-07-2005, 12:37 PM
Also on the subject before the engine I am getting is a 1.8L DOHC same thing as the 2.0 just a 1.8 i saw it. It is definatley weird cause i never heard of it before but thats what it is.

Post a picture of it or give a link to it
gthompson97
02-07-2005, 01:23 PM
why would you buy a 1.8 and try turbo it when the stock 2.0 will fit and can handle 500+ horsepower stock??
1stGenRocks
02-07-2005, 06:47 PM
if it is a 1.8 DOHC then its not from an eclipse talon or laser. maybe it came from another mitsu or hyundai car but not likely.
btw 1.8 arent all bad can you say "non-interference motor" lol. ive seen 1.8 with t4 turbos on them so anything can be done if you have money and know how. or in your case LOTS of money and a shop that knows what they are doing

You can find a turbo on ebay, dsmtuners classifieds, dsmtrader, a local junkyard, mitsubishi dealership, mitsubishi graveyard, EVERY aftermarket DSM vendor etc...
Now, it will not bolt onto your 1.8. You have very limited options with a 92 horsepower motor, and I wouldn't invest much money into it personally. Even if the motor could handle it (i wouldnt know because ive never heard of a 1.8L mitsubishi motor with over 150 horsepower), you need custom exhaust manifold, turbo, custom intake piping, exhaust piping, etc. It's the same as a turbo install on any n/a car in the world: custom.
Whether it's hard to swap a 2.0 motor into your car is another question. I assume it's pretty easy.

the engine is a 4G67 out of a hyundai its a 1.8L 130 horse DOHC engine everything that bolts onto the 4G63 2.0L will bolt onto this so there basically the same

yes it will some of the old hyundai's came with a 4G63 in them because the 2 engines were the same just different models and 5 horse difference

Um.. because the same brand of cars comes with both engines, doesn't make them the same.
That's like saying the H22A and the d16z6 engines are the same because they both come in Hondas.

lmfao. i agree with vtec95. just because a car came with 2 motors doesnt mean its the same. look at a 2g eclipse the nt is COMPLETLY different then the turbo. hell the trans isnt even the same since the engine is on the opposite side of the engine bay.
so 91 eclipse sell the hyundai 1.8, sell the eclipse, go buy a moped and stfu

lol but i was wondering from all you guys i looked it up on the internet and everyhting is the same. wiring harness ECU everything. every aftermarket part you can put on the 4G63 DOHC 2.0L will fit on the 4G67 DOHC 1.8L it came out of an elentra the only difference is 5 horse and the valve cover.
91 Eclipse

I came on here for some advice im fucking 16 years old like i'm a damn super car expert. I looked it up and its perfect so....
1stGenRocks
02-14-2005, 07:37 PM
so then go for it. you still need a new wiring harness to swap from a eclipse 1.8 to a 4g63
91 Eclipse
02-14-2005, 07:54 PM
This 4G67 1.8L is out of a hyundai not an eclipse. It has 130 horse 16 valve DOHC. Thats what i was saying its the same engine.
1stGenRocks
02-14-2005, 08:01 PM
ok ignore everything you or i have said before. even if the engien you bought is the same as a 4g63 you STILL NEED A WIRING HARNESS, ECU, AND SOME OTHER CRAP to make it work in a eclipse that came with a 1.8. the transmission is different too but that just means its weaker and has different gear ratios.
look up what you need to do to swap a 2.0 turbo motor into a 1.8 eclipse. thats basicly what you are doing only without the turbo
