Dome lights when door opens

When I open the doors the inside lights will not come on.
It doesn't matter which door, none will work. If I roll the dial
next to headlight switch they will work, just not when you open
the doors. Any ideas.
Thanks

OK, if there is no interior light switch, check your fuses.
Check the bulbs. It'd be unlikely that they'd both burn out at the same time, however I can't say I know how they are wired. If they are wired in series like cheap christmas tree lights, one burnt out bulb kills the circuit.
If opening any door doesn't kick the lights on, most likely it's a fuse. If it turns out the fuse is blown, and a newly installed fuse blows as well, there's a short in the circuit. Most likely culprit is worn insulation abraded on metal somewhere that is grounding out.

My 1995 GMC Safari has a slide bar on the dash, Interior Lights = Off or Door. When "Off" the only way to turn on interior lights is like you said with the contrast wheel.

My '89 does too. Right next to the rear a/c switch. When it's in the off position, the dome light only comes on with the contrast wheel.
Unfortunate if GM dropped this switch from the dash. Mine keeps my kids from running down the battery by leaving a door ajar.

There should be a push button on the driver side of the dash, right underneath the headlight switch and interior light rocker. It is the dome light override button. If it is pushed in, your lights will do the same as you describe. If you depush it, than it should work normal.
