You guys must be in heven with this new speed channel huh? All this nascar coverage. Here is the serious question though, am I'n not trying to be a dick here this is a genuine question: what is it that you like about Nascar??? I myself find cars going in big circles powered by technologically inadvanced engines boring. But seroiusly, what makes you all like it so much??

True, many motorsports seem more exciting than NASCAR. However, until you've actually been to a race at a major track you can't truly understand why so many love it. Half the fun of going to a race in Bristol, TN is getting drunk with your buddies before the race and raising hell in the stands.
Also, unlike alot of racing, the heavier, slower cars of NASCAR bump each other all the time, which to me is more exciting than seeing some fragile race car that can't take a little rub from opposing drivers.

Here is why I like Nascar. You have 43 cars in the field which means you have 43 different drivers with a chance to win the race. There are different race tracks ranging from a 0.5 mile track to a 2.66 mile superspeedway and yes race fans Nascar does run on road courses. Some race tracks you can have different grooves to run your car.High,low,middle.There are different types of pavement, banking on tracks.Nascar has night racing,F1 doesn't do that. You have 2 and 3 wide racing that is fun to watch as a fan but most drivers hate 3 wide, too dangerous.Sterling Marlin came from last place(43rd) to win at Darlington. But I agree with Maddog,if you can go to a race then do so.Just one fans opinion on why he likes Nascar.:smoka:

i dont really understand nascar either. The cars just go in circles, there is no real skill involved. You mite all start on at me about how they are going nose to tail at whatever speed they go at, but there is no braking, no cornering, no real test of skill, like who can brake latest, who can get the power down earliest, who can get the inside line through the corner. As far as i (and most other people who dont, or maybe do, live in the US) can see the only attraction of nascar is the noise of the engines, the atmosphere and the occasional huge crash, all of which happen in most other racing series anyway. All you nascar lovers should go to the indianapolis F1 grand prix and see wot real racing is like.

I never understood it until I started actually watching the races. I got hooked after that. Then I went to Indy for the brickyard 400 and Richmond for the MonteCarlo 400 and that is simply awesome to experience it in person.
If NASCAR drivers are so un-skilled, why do they kick a$s in IROC races against Indy car drivers? I realize they use NASCAR tracks, but since you think going around in circles is so easy, why can't the indy drivers do it? Is it because they don't have the fancy computers that tell EVERTHING about how the car is running and how much gas is left?
Go down to any NASCAR track that offers the Richard Petty Driving Experience and take a few laps in their cars and then tell me NASCAR doesn't involve skill.

Nascar drivers may beat the Indy car drivers. But the indy car drivers are not as skilled as drivers in other series, F1 for example. Juan Pablo Montoya was one of the best indy car drivers, and now he has moved to F1, in the most powerful car in the field he still cant live with the likes of Michael Schumacher. I would love to see a Nascar driver go around the Nurburgring. By the Nurburgring i mean the full Nordshcleife circuit, not just the GP circuit. Anyone who has any real interest in racing will know wot i mean by the Nordschliefe. I still say there is no skill in going around one long corner. Where is the skill to adjust the steering wheel by minute amounts, all the time keepin the accelarator almost flat to the floor and neva touching the brake??? Answer me that and i may change my mind about Nascar

F1 at night. That's just stupid. Why does that make NASCAR special? I don't want to watch a race at night, especially if I see a race live. If you want to bring up F1 and NASCAR in the same post, why don't you tell us why NASCAR does not drive in the rain? F1 does, and they are cornering just as fast in spots as NASCAR is. What happened to "win on Sunday, sell on Monday"? So I can't drive a Taurus or a Monte Carlo in the wet??? Which brings up another point. How unexciting can they make the cars? A Chevy Monte Carlo. Let's see, it is a piece of crap with a V6. Hmm. Stock Car? A V8 in the NASCAR version....
If NASCAR fans are objected to open wheel racing (that's Indy, Cart and the formulas for all you in Alabama), why don't they like Sports Car Racing. I have friends (I question why) who enjoy NASCAR and they don't like Sports Car Racing. You'd think they'd enjoy the compromise between NASCAR and open-wheel.
Also, there are only 2 NASCAR road courses, I have seen qualifying on good old NAS...Speed Channel for the Sears Point race...it is boring (but that is a given with NASCAR), but also very painful to watch. Slow, and when they hit the curbs on cornering, it looks like the car will contort until it snaps in half. Ugly!
For those of you who arn't fans of NASCAR and happened to read this, I am really looking for a complaint in the NASCAR forum about Speed Channel. Would someone direct me to a thread about how bad Speed (the channel) has become. I'd like to start a petition. I am paying for this channel and I have to watch this crap. Something needs to be done.

Hey. I am a fan of all types of racing. NASCAR being my favorite. Here's why in a nutshell. NASCAR is the only major type of racing(except F-1) that hasn't been f***ed with. It has stayed the same since it's origin, pretty much. In the early '90's I was a huge fan of both CART racing and the IMSA GTP-GTO series and was only mildly interested in NASCAR. But after the heartbreaking split up of CART and the formation of 'IRL'(what a joke) along with the dismantling of the GTP series to form the American LeMans series(even bigger joke) I lost interested and put all my eggs in the NASCAR basket. Both CART and GTP went bye-bye because the cars cost too much, wwaahh, and because the cars were going too fast, wwaahh. I have no desire to watch a bunch of panty-waist racing series when the NASCAR guys have nerves of steel and have never complained that their cars go too fast. Just my thoughts.

I have to correct myself before someone blasts me. I know CART still exists, but they don't race at Indy and that's where the history was. CART is still OK but hasn't been the same since the split.

Wow, I forgot I posted here :p
Its hard to say how you get hooked. Its just personal choice. Some people prefer Baseball over Basketball.
I'm not going to defend NASCAR. It happens to be my preference. But I will say that a night race is pretty cool. For one reason, you have less heat at night. Who really prefers to sit and bake in the sun all day? Another thing is seeing the cars at night. The lights have a cool effect on the cars. Another nice thing is it gives you more time to walk around at the track and visit all the booths. A lot of sponsors have large tents set up and give-aways. You also get more of a chance to hit up the souvineer stands. Yet another reason is the TV deal. A lot of people work on Sundays and don't get a chance to watch the race. I could go on, but I don't think anybody would care.
I don't have any objection to Open Wheel. I just don't care to watch it. Same with the sports cars. I just think the SPEED channel is marketing itself toward the growing sport, NASCAR. You can't argue with that. Just compare ratings (IN THE UNITED STATES. I REALIZE THAT F1 IS MORE POPULAR OUTSIDE THE U.S.). Or compare race attendance to an open wheel race. (AGAIN, IN THE UNITED STATES).
