i was just wondering if the filter that came with my AEM CAI is reusable??? if its a washable, how would i do that??? or do i have to get a new one??? where would i get a new one (online sites would be good... im lookin only to get the genuine filter... i read in the FAQ that the best is the cotton fiber with the oil and what not...)??? how frequently should i change my filter??? keep in mind i have RAM air now ever since i got my foglights installed... hehe... the doode in the body shop made the hole (but he forgot to make me a cap or something to seal the hole on those rainy days... hahaha... so i got smart and made my own)... thanx for your input

good question.. i was thinking about it at work today. the fuckers at the bodyshop got overspray all over my already dirty k&n filter. i'd also love to know where i can buy a replacement.

JuMBoBeaTS: i know they can be cleaned, and they come with instructions. i just want one bc mine has pearl white paint inside it.

Hey,

I just washed my AEM filter yesterday... I just soaked it in hot water and rinsed it off repeatedly until no more dirt was rolling off. The pink dye bleeds all over though, so make sure you do it in a cleanable sink. Along with washing the filter, I cleaned all the sludge, grime, and dirt out of the inner fender well where the filter sits. After cleaning the filter and doing that, I can feel my torque came back a little bit.

As far as how often you need to do it, every 3-6 months, depending on how lazy you are. Meaning, you don't really ever need to do it, it's just a performance revival technique.

No, I don't think you'll ever have to buy a new filter. I've had mine on for a good 4 months before I cleaned it and it's still in 100% perfect condition after I cleaned it. I suppose you should use a K&N filter recharger kit every 20k miles or so to reoil the filter.

BTW I'm gonna make that Ram-Air thingy too. I still haven't came up with an idea of how to make an end-cap though. Hope the filter info helped.

thanks... i'll try that... my filter aint that dirty yet but i wanted to know ahead of time what to do... cuz i definitely know now that its gettin dirty since i got the RAM air... can i get that recharger kit in any automotive store IE pepboys???

as for the end cap... right now... im super ghetto and just used a cut out from a styrofoam plate... hahaha... i know.. GHETTO... but i wrapped in black electrical tape so it wont be that noticeable there.. hahahaha... i wedge it right between the mesh (i had it put in) and the trim of the OEM fog-light with a lil bit of tape to hold it place... LOL... hey... it gets the job done... its gonna hafta do till i figure out sumthin better... and when i do... i'll share that info with you... ahahah

its only a k&n filter so to clean it you would use the k&n filter cleaner kit.

after you wash it, make sure you oil it with the recharger kit
