I have been seaching with little luck..I am trying to figure out which motor the civic hatcback I just purchased for my little brother has in it..it has the idle up/idle down problem when it is cold and all the fixes Ive seen on here shows stuff in different places than his motor..I looked around and all I could find is one number stamped sideways on the head on the leftside below the valvecover it reads A15290578 where do I find other numbers..looks as if a engine change was done sometime in its past..maybe to an older style engine? please help
it is a 91 model

right by the exhaust manifold on the left side on the block you will see a rectangular piece, scrape any gunk off that and you should see the engine number

Thank you..yes it was under a layer of dirt..the number reads D15B2
so would that be an engine that would have come in a 91 Civic Hatch? also the thread How to fix a FITV its as easy as 1, 2, 3.. seems to be for a different engine...whats the common fix for surging idle problems on this D15B2 motor?

Thanks again man for the help...

yep, the d15b2 is a common motor for the 88-91 civic/crx
for the surging idle you might have a vaccuum leak somewhere

also, the thread about the FITV is for B-series motors

Yeah I know...they are off now..that picture was taken basicly to show my little brother the car I bought for him(he lives three hours from me)...I have taken the mexican chrome hubcaps off, tinted the windows and started looking for new wheels to put on in the spring..its a clean little car thats fun to drive..but not as fun as my car...

You need to learn how to drive it then. 1 wheel at a time over everything.

It takes a lot of practice, but "how low can you go" doesn't seem appropriate for the picture, so I just thought I'd point it out. :p
