Allison Transmission Owners Beware

2002, Silverado HD, 60K, 8.1L Crew Cab, Full bed, all OEM.
After 3 years, my silverado failed me for the first time.
The truck was in reverse, then, suddenly the truck lurched backward with a vengence.
I put it in park, ran through the gears-- nothing -- no drive, no reverse no nothing. I did this for about an hour.
Thought the trans was gone. Shut down, re-started and seemed ok.
However, the PRND123 indicator did not indicate. In D, it would not indicate is was in D. There was no "indication light".
Started driving, but it would not shift. It was stuck in 2nd gear. It was also "banging" into gear when manually shifted.
Long story short, I thought my trans was gone. Called a local chevy dealer, talked to a tech, told me it was probaly the neutral - park switch. The switch corrodes after time. I bought the part ($175.00), changed out the old with the new. It worked!! The allison trans is working better than ever.
If this happens to you, don't let the dealer walk away with your
$$$. Part = $165+tax+1 hour labor.
EM with any additional questions. [email protected]

Your shifter goes from Drive to First, and then 2 and 3? That's weird.
Hehe, just giving ya crap... I've even written that (pen and paper) once. Thanks for the notification.

I lost the indicator light and trans temp gauge functions, replaced the NSBU switch and still have no PRND123 Indicator or Trans Temp gauge. Anyone have any ideas as to whats next????
