Hey,

I've got a 96 GrandAm. The light behind my heating/AC controls is out. How do I go about changing that.

Does it involve taking out the dash? It seems like there should be an easier way to get to it.

I know its not a fuse because I checked all of them.

If it is the dash...can you point me towards directions for doing that?

Thanks!

Adam

Hey i have a 93 grand am, im not sure how much different it is than your car but i know on mine it is very easy to change.

First you have to remove the instrument panel cover ( the one that goes around the control assembly and your radio) usually held on by screw with a torx head I think its a T-15 or a T-20 bit you will need. There is also one that you will need a 1/4 drive ratchet with i think it is a 7 or 8 mm socket this one is located under the panel where your centre console is. you cant get a screw driver with a torx bit in there. On my car i have to unscrew the glove box screws and remove that aswell. Also you will need to remove the panel that is under your steering wheel to get to one more screw before the panel will come off. Once you have the panel off on my car the control assembly just pulls out with a little bit of force it just clips in. Then just take out the bulb and replace it. I hope this helps you ,, this is how i have to do it on my 93 grand am.

I have a 98 GAGT the dash panel does have to come out to get to the heater controls. there are two phillips head screws in the top of the instrument cluster and them two screws below the heater controls in the back of the storage compartment. pulling the panel is a pain in the butt you have to tilt the steering wheel down and carefully work it out from the steering wheel while you pull on the bottom part of the panel. once off you can pull the heater controls out, I believe it is a 9/32 head screw on both sides. the control head will pull straight out. from there you will most likely have to take the control face plate off (I don't know for sure I have not done it on my car, I just finished doing it to my 98 Montana). Hopefully the bulbs are easily replaceable my Montana has the bulbs sodered right to the circuit board. I was able to get the replacement bulb at Radio Shack. Good luck Let me know if I can be any more help.
