Fisrt things first: If your are going to go all out JDM, why not just import yourself a Silvia S(w/e one your may prefer) for a reasonable price, and it is only $600 dollars. Get the real JDM deal (right-hand drive.)http://www.batfa.com
Secondly: People do conversions for a reason: they eigther bored with their money or they are insanely in love with the look that they want to go for. There are ones who may prefer the "old school" look and there are the ones who are into the more modern look. It is all of a matter of personal preference.
Another matter:All Silvias (all cars) come with certain engines for certain reasons. Whether is being the CA SR, or the KA, RB(taking from a Skyline), It is all up to the person and what they are willing to spend, how far they want to go, and what their purpose for it is.
Now I am not taking sides for anyone but let people go on with their matters if they ask just listen and answer. If they want to tuck some 22's onto a 240(maybe thats to far) but wanting to do S(#) onto their 240 or vise versa maybe reasonable or what ever. But people please do not kill the import scene (or what ever you are attempting to do) keep it with in the boundries because you will end up making a fool out yourself.

its legal to have RHD.....

how so? wouldnt it be only for show? if so, then what restricts all these other JDM cars from the US? maybe im wrong, but im just taking a guess....and whats the purpose of this thread?
orestes
02-06-2005, 02:03 AM
a jdm car would be illegal because it would have never been US government DOT approved, not because you drive from the right side of the car.
well shit actually i dont know for a fact that RHD is not illegal, im just basing it on the fact that i have seen two RHD ITR's, so im assuming they were legal because people would be damn stupid to do something so blatantly illegal and expensive, just asking to get their shit impounded. so yeah im pretty sure its legal. yeah and i was shitting myself seeing a RHD ITR mobbin around in my school parking lot.

You’re trying to be a wiseass? U have some free time so u though it a good idea to drop in a complete nonsense in our forum?
Look at what u typed… “keep it with in the boundaries because you will end up making a fool out yourself.” It would be good if u establish that “boundaries” so we can agree or disagree with u .
U stated in general what people do to cars, “If they want to tuck some 22's onto a 240(maybe that’s to far) but wanting to do S(#) onto their 240 or vise versa maybe reasonable or what ever.” WTF is that? You have no point, state noting and take no side.
Why did u post? What is your point?
“Now I am not taking sides for anyone but let people go on with their matters if they ask just listen and answer.” That was the most confusing statement I ever read…
Anyways, hope u comeback and explain yourself….

it seems to me like he's telling all of us not to ruin the import scene with the dubs we all have on our 240s.. so everybody be careful of that.. :gay:
so nr1, when did ANYBODY say ANYTHING about going all jdm or not?? that was a stupid comment..
secondly, nobody has any problems with people doing conversions.. thats the beauty of the 240/silvia.. you're basically saying people are arguing about something when they're clearly not.. another stupid comment..
for the engines, nobody said anything to deserve a comment you made.. the sr vs ka is a very legitimate argument and nobody seriously flames anybody else about wanting either one (except for sr20detpower who seriously doesn't like the sr but thats ok, we'll respect that).. so why are you saying there's an argument about engines when there really isnt' one??
finally, this is probably the LAST place you'll see people ruining the import scene with bling bling and dubs on their 240s.. we mostly talk about engine performance and speed.. no more than 10% of the threads here are about body kits and bling bling rims and ricer shit like that.. why are you accusing us of this?? a VERY stupid comment on your part..
i don't know what you're trying to prove but everything you posted is absolutely 100% irrelevant and are not issues with us. so do us a favor and don't rice this forum up.
end of rant

haha wtf... it's posts like these that make this forum look stupid...
btw it's not easy legalizing RHD vehicles in the United States. It'll cost you the same, if not more, than the car you actually purchased from Japan...
Most imported vehicles are subjected to U.S. safety standards, bumper standards, and air pollution control (emission standards). Some things include replacing your GT-R's exhaust system and even the windshield since it needs to be rubber coated. Older JDM cars don't have the collision shatter-proof windows and good luck finding a windshield sold in the US that'll fit a skyline. In this case, you would have to have it custom made in Japan.
Some documents you need prior to legalizing your car... shipper's original bill of lading, bill of sale, foreign registration, written prior approval form from the Environmental Protection Agency (which will be needed for the Customs inspection at the port of entry). result: $$$
You also need to clean the undercarriage due to importation of dangerous pests... this is imposed by the US department of agriculture. ( you would need it to be steam-sprayed and cleaned throughly BEFORE shipment, which means in Japan) result: more $$$
Imported vehicles, used or new, have dutiable rates... and for cars it's 2.5%. If it's imported for personal use, you also need to pay $400 Customs exemption for your vehicle. results: even more $$$
If you try and import your vehicle for taking part in races or other specific purposes, you still need the written approval of the EPA and it cannot be used on streets and highways. Also the car is only allowed to stay on the US soil for 90 days, if not, it will be confiscated.
Any vehicle not older than 25 years will need to go through DOT inspection which includes, motor vehicle standards that were in effect during the period of manufacture. They require the Original manufacturer to affix a label to the vehicle that confirms the fact that it's applicable to safety and bumper standards. In most cases, this is impossible since JDM nissan cars are NOT made for the US. hence, you must enter the "nonconformed vehicle" under a DOT bond for 1.5 times the vehicles dutiable value (additional money to the original value). results: even more $$$$
You, or the importer, must also sign a contract with a DOT registered importer (RI), who can verify the vehicle has been modified to meet US standards (good luck finding him). This copy must be presented when the car is at the port of entry. DOT also required vehicles make, model and year verified to be eligible for importation. If it's not eligible by the RI you can submit a petition in your behalf to have your vehicle 'considered' for eligibility, if you want to still try that is. But keep in mind, filling for a petitions require more fees. results: even more and more $$$
since japan never regulated emissions as much as the US, you will be subjected to "gas-guzzler" tax, which is based on combined urban/highway fuel-economy rating assigned by they EPA. more $$$
emission standards require the modification of O2 sensors and catalytic converters... if not you need to have the Independent Commercial Importer bring the car in for you.. in which most cases.. they wouldn't give a sh!t about what you want so you won't get it that way either.
A foreign car can be made conditionally admitted, but the modifications required for compliance are very extensive and impractical.. hence, the DOT doesn't insist on importing vehicles in the first place. Having them working Against your favor will make petitions and processes much much harder.
Also imported cars need the International Registration Marker. You need to get this from an international automobile federation or your local automobile departments.
Keep in mind there are other regulations you must follow depending on what state you live in since each state has it's own restrictions for imported vehicles... Then maybe after all that (which will take over an year to do) you will have your car. At that point you wouldn't be able to modify your car extensively since there are strict regulations you must meet at each modification. That is, if you even have money left to do so...
hahaa... jus a quick 2 cents...
