i would like to know an easy way to tell if my current exhaust system is still stock or if it has been upgraded. i have downloaded some sound clips off the web and it does sound close to flowmaster. i am looking to upgrade mine from whatever it is now to a high-flow cat, and new cat.back sometime soon. as far as i know the car is still stock 305. i would like some ideas on a new system, im looking for something aggressive & deep sounding, that is affordable like between $300-$400. and maybe some headers too, not sure on a brand of headers to get. I thank anyone who replys for any info they can supply me with, this place is full of the best camaro people around

climb under your car and read your cat, it should say what brand it is....

Edelbrock TES Headers.
Gawd no. Those headers are a major PITA to install and made from mild steel to boot...SLP stainless steel...still not "real easy" to install but better than the TES's and will out last your car,

is there a way i can tell if my muffler is stock or aftermarket the same way as on a cat? was really wondering on if my exhaust was stock since it does have a bit of an aggressive tone, sounded stronger thena friends camaro same as mine cept his had 350, and mine had the stronger sound. if i get headers, should i go for the ceramic coating, or just get whatever coating, im just getting them for the performance gain, not for show. should i stay with factory sized tubes or go to a bigger size of everything. what are some good combinations of componets, not sure on headers, was thinkin of maybe magnaflow high-flow cat. havnt really found a cat-back system yet, would like something thats strong, but with not so much of a loud resonance in the cab, i like to hear it, but i know with whats on there i get a drone cruising at 60. thanx for anymore help, hope to get some good ideas soon.

Ceramic coating is not just for show, it helps isolate the header heat and keep it in the exhaust out of the engine bay, and it helps protect yourheaders from rusting thru etc.
Bigger size everything. I'd say Magnaflow cat and back it's got good tone and power ad isnt too loud unless you punch it/when you want it to be

doesnt flowmaster make a muffler that is really loud at the low rpms but kindof quiets out at higher rpms for cruising? i wanna say i've heard something like that. I would check their site or do a google or yahoo search.

what would be the higher rpms that the 80 series quiets out at, im usually cruising inbetween 15-20000.... i found this site http://www.completeexhaust.com/index.php and would like to know if anyone here has used this site before, and would like to know if i get the magna flow, which one would i need to get in shape & size since they have the flat & round, with different size openings, i may not have the $$ to upgrade to headers for a while, so i guess i would have to go with whatever stock size pipes are?? they also have a flow master cat back system for under 399 for 92, but its for dual cat, and i think mine was single, so would the one for 86-91 work? or would buying just the cat & muffler and getting a local muffler shop bend up tubes & install them be cheaper? thanx for the helb

speaking of rusting headers, my headers arnt rusting yet. but all the factory paint if kinda flaking off revealing metal. is there anything i can do to help make them not rust. im thinking about masking everything off...and painting them as much as i can with vht. is that possible??

20,000 rpms?!?!?!?!?! :grinno:
Don't get muffler shop bended tubes. you want mandrel bends both for performance and for sound. I'd say get a magnaflow LT1 catback but someone needs to double check that the exhaust is run the same way. dont get flowmaster unless youre looking only for sound not performance.

i would like to free up some hp, but really would like to free up more mpg with the exhaust upgrades, and getting k&n filter & filter lid for my tbi to free up breathing in the car in & out, the 17-19 mpg seems kinda bad, but would like to hit 20 with better breathing. has anyone tried those filter lids by k&n? would i notice the difference with k&n over reg. paper filters like fram.

K&N Filters flow significantly better than regular disposables, as for the lid tho, i've never tried it.

would this be the flowmaster system i needed http://www.completeexhaust.com/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=484 it says from 86-91 for single cat, but mine is a 92 with single cat i think, the one listed for 89-92 is for dual cat so would the one for 91 fit? would the difference between flowmaster, and say magna flow change any fuel economy with the more free flowin magnaflow compared to the flowmaster? i havnt seen a magna flow cat-back system for the 3rd gens have only seen for 93 and up.
