headlight glass not transparent

I bought my 1999LHS used, and I noticed the left headlight was a bit damaged by some sort of acid chemical I guess. The outside of the headlight transparent plastic) is not very transparent anymore, an it has a kind of a rough texture when I run my fingers over it.

What I did is I took some sandpaper and wetsanded it strongly using sandpaper of a smaller and smaller grit... I went down to 1500 grit but it is still not translucent. Am I going to get it clear again doing this and using even smaller grit (2000) and then rubbing compound, or is it not even worth it ? Sanding this is an extreme pain in the..back.

You're working way too hard!

Once you've sanded it with 800 or 1200 grit, polish it with an orbital polisher. Use a good swirl remover for the polish. Be sure to use an orbital buffer and plenty of water. Heat is the killer here.

I've used this method with great success on various headlights.

Good luck,

Roger
