I'm still working on this car for my friend, and for some reason, her keys have never worked in her car...
Well, the battery is dead now... and the doors are locked. So, I can't unlock it with the alarm, and I can't get into the engine compartment to jump it. : )
Anyone know if you can get to the cable to pop the hood some other way? Or am I going to have to get a slim jim?

What year truck? If it's a 3rd gen 4Runner, I don't see a way. Don't have access to a 2nd gen

got in!!!
I called the owner this morning, and she said that the keys sometimes work on the hatch, but it's hard, and you feel like you are going to break the key...
Made me think that this vehicle wasn't rekeyed after all... so, I sprayed some lithium into the drivers door and POP! it opened far too easily : ) I have a whole list of things to send home with this girl - and you can bet white lithium is pretty high on that list!

Should always use a dry lubricant for use in ANY lock. The grease collects dirt and dust over time this turns to a sticky gue there is a graphite based liquid spray that is EXCELLENT it is in a quick drying liquid that leaves just a graphite residue EVERYWHERE in the lock and the locks work great afterword, it is better than the powered graphite.
But Lithium probably leaves the owner less depressed.

No doubt - dry lube is the way to go for lock mechanisms.
Literally, Angella said that she (he?) sprayed some lithium grease into the driver's door, not the lock. I assumed it freed up the linkage and not the lock mechanism.

yep - that long stick thingy is useful... gets into most places
I have some graphite stuff that I've put on a key, then put it in there... but this liquid stuff sounds pretty cool, I'll have to keep an eye out for it and add it to the collection : )

OK, oops I misread me bad. But here's the product:
Lock-Ease: Cat. No. LE-5
Graphited Lock Fluid "with flexible snorkel"!
That's actually what it says on the can.
