Pull the lever, walk to the front, bump the front corner of the hood with your hand a few times. It should pop up....if it does oil the latch and you'll have no more problems.

I have a 1998 Jimmy and I was able to lift the hood up enough to loosen the the two 13mm bolts holding the latch to the front end. I then was able to get the hood up far enough to reach get the latch to open.

My problem was that the cone spring on the hood fell off so when I pulled the cable it wouldn't force up through the latch. Worse case is that you cut the cable so you can lift the hood completely and easily get at the latch assembly.

Changing the cable wasn't too bad once the parking brake was out of the way. I used a coat hanger taped to the old cable to help route the new cable.

Got my hood open everybody. Thanks. I just looked under the hood while my fiance was pulling on the cable and saw what it was supposed to do. So I just put a screwdriver in it and gave a push and she opened right up. It was closed to tightly I think.

Again, Thanks alot.

You should probably put some oil on it.

Yeah. I sprayed some lube on it. Works great now. Thanks to all.
