Does anyone know who was the driver in the mclaren F1 that did the 391km/h unofficial record and when/where this happened?
I need good information for shutin up the Greek EVO magazine which taunts the official record of the mclaren f1 by showing the unofficial new record speed record of the porsche 9ff.

The guy that did the March 1998 record run at Ehra-Liessen was Andy Wallace. He was also the same guy that did the 0-100-0 record in the F1 LM for CAR magazine.

I just want to make this clear once in for all....

Did the F1 had more power? I keep hearing it had 680+ bhp with no rev limiter. Apparently, there was other modifications on the car that I don't remember.

It nad the rev limiter raised i think that was supposed to be it no tapeing things up or shanagins with the mirrors. However it did have a sticker for a number plate............so i wonder what else might have been done......

"So that's the record: 386.7km/h, 240.3mph,".. Stratoraptor thats the official..

i need to know about the 391km/h record... as far as i know, it had the rev limiter removed and no mirrors, while the engine (the 627ps?) was not modified..

391km/h was read by Andy Wallace in the cockpit. In Driving Ambition, a picture caption reads that 386km/h was the corrected top speed read by the equipment. And as far as I can tell from the pictures, the car still had it's mirrors and wasn't taped up. If you read the article, it said that the standard roadcar was geared to go about 236mph with the 7500rpm limit, but for the three runs, the limiter was bumped up to 7900rpm, 8100rpm, and 8300rpm for the third and final run. Increasing rpm does allow for more power if there is still enough torque and it also lets the eninge spin more which means that the wheels can spin more, too.

My bad, I wasn't aware of a larger video size. It is definitely new to me, at least at this resolution, though I think others might already have it. Thanks a bunch. :)
And by the way, I think most of us have seen the Tiff Needell video from Top Gear. There are also 2 others by him, including the speed record breaking for a circuit in England, and another on Fifth Gear where he drives a black McLaren F1 suited with a High Downforce Kit.

Go here: http://www.racingflix.com/getvideo.asp?v=452

You have to register, and the download is slow, unless you get a premium membership. I don't remember if I got this from racingflix, or another site with a faster download speed. Anywho, search for other McLaren videos as well.
