Ok, my buddy was testing out my car the other night. We were going pretty fast on the freeway. Well, nearing red line at 3rd gear, he accidently dropped it down to 2nd. The engine roared but it sounded fine. Will this have any lasting effect on the car? Will this cause the synch of the tranny to go haywire, because I noticed that shifting from 4th to 5th nearing red line causes 5th to grind....ugh!

I don't know honestly if it will or not...but better take precaution and get money from your friend for damaging your tranny :D And if he doesn't want to give you some money....Hes not your friend ;) Especially if he won't pay for something breaking in the type-r:D

i think it will be fine. although it may have put allot of undo stress on many of the components of your engine. The rev limiter should have kicked in and probobly ignited every other compression stroke resulting in allot of fuel being dumped in you oil which would result with a very uncomfortable hard engine braking basically. which would put extra stress on you engine components and tranny. Either way you should get money from him and kick his ass?lol? missed shift on a type R, should never happen. NEVER LET ANYONE BUT YOU DRIVE YOUR CAR. cmon man its a type r.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I ain't never going to let anyone drive my car again. The car is at only 9k miles when this happened last week. So far, the car is running perfectly fine...brand new still. Took it to the dealer to have it checked and they said everything is still fine...except for that annoying grinding on 5th when i shift at redline:( I think the car will be fine in the long run....Integras are well known for their high reliability, and the Type Rs engines are pretty damn strong...but still, I wish the missed shift thing never happend.

i got a funny story about downshifting. A guy i know just got a new RSX-S and he was slaming the petal every chance he get. One day the guy was on the freeway on 5th and decided to show off by downshifting to 3rd. BUt some how, (maybe he broke the lockout by pushing it real hard, or somthing else) he downed to 1st. Now any manuel integ owner know that the integs have real real short first gears. So, he downed to first, car started making real funny noises and boom!, a piston goes flying. There is a hole on his hood where the piston took off. Such a waste of a good RSX, this is a true story. NO lie.

Speaking of which, I saw a video clip of a guy misshifting in an RSX.
Funny shiet man. (funny cuz it wasn't me).
I hear that the way the shifter/gearing is set up in the RSX, it's easy to mis-shift. That's gotta suck, especially when so many are still breaking in.
I agree, a swift kick to your friend's nuts should be pro-active maintenance for future hi-jinx of such nature.

In the first place what were you doing letting your friend drive your brand new car. And them what are you doing red lining it with so little miles on it. Make sure you brake it in good. Unless you have lots of money and can buy a new car/engine/trany..... Anyway be sure to kick your frind in the nuts for miss shifting:eek: ............ good luck............stefan525

Well, the car breakes in at around 5k...I've been driving that puppy hard at around 2k...from what I hear, it's fine to do it. So far no problem, and the car loves to be revved hard anywayz. But thanks for the advice guys. No one touches my car again...and I gotta really take it easy with the car, driving wise....it's really hard thoug, since the ITR begs to be driven hard :o

I'm not use to driving a 6 speed and I've grinded 3rd and 5th a couple of times each and my car is the greatest.

Dude, the RSX is shit-your-pants scary during a misshift- and it's so easy to do on the S if youre not paying attention. Can you say bent rods?
