yeah i beleive the bearings on my clutch assebly is going out (very anoying noise)... and i can only find the assembly already together with the ac compressor for like 800 bucks... so i though mabey ill just get a smaller belt leave the compressor off and just run the altinator to the underdrive... does anyone know if that will clear?

hey man. you might try napa, but from experience i know that A/C compressor clutches aren't cheap. around 250 at least. ur best bet is to look at salvage yards. a great resource is www.car-part.com. its a database of all the salvage/junk yards in the nation. i did a few quick searches in Tx (i see you're from Bridgeport...i'm in Dallas) and i couldn't find JUST the compressor clutch. but when i searched for A/C compressor in TX, i got a bunch of hits. ur best bet from there is jsut to call around and see if they have the compressor clutch and if they'd be willing to sell it separately.
that's a lot easier than getting a custom belt for just the alternator. however, i'm sure you'd free up some hp if you did just run the custom belt with no A/C.
let me know how it turns out.

yeah thats was what i was thinking... little hp gain ;) really i can probaly messure around the altinator pully, tensioner, and idler pully with a vinyl messuring tape and run up to autozone and get a belt... they should have one that size...

ya, its worth a try. and if the belt works and all, you COULD rip out all ur AC stuff. probably save around 50 lbs b/c that compressor is pretty heavy. BUT, think before you do it. b/c if you end up finding a compressor clutch and wanna install it and put the A/C belt back on, then you might have to charge the system again...and that's expensive b/c our cars use R-12...the old stuff. most all new cars use R-134 which is more environmentally friendly (for you Thourun!).

Meh, I think chemical polutants are overhyped, the real bad stuff is polution of the ocean and C02 emissions. Ohh yea and saving the forests would be cool too!

I honestly don't think that the tens of thousands of car enthusiasts withought cats make a difference since like I said, all combustion makes C02 which is the big problem in my book. The aircraft industry dosent have to use cats and they can even use leaded gas still which is a real problem... but they're special. Not having cats just makes more ground level smog and ozone which mostly affects people, and I don't care much about most people lol.

Tad, you don't have to be "not against cats" to be accepted here in a cars forum. we love you man. you can rag on us as long and as much as you want. we know you're right and our only excuse is "we want more power and this is the cheap way to do it!". so don't let up, keep at it. every bit helps, although probably jets and factories do cause the majority of the CO2.

Well thats the thing, every bit does help but I think its worth it for us lol. And I think jets run on kerosene, its the props that run on super high octaine gas.
About the environmentalist thing, I'd rather study it than protest on behalf of it lol.
