Door that diverts air to floor is broken inside unit. Does anyone know if entire dash needs to come out to replace it?

It actually is much easier than it sounds, but yes the dash has to come out (or at least be moved well out of the way.)
It is a pretty daunting task, but with patience and a good set of tools it can be done by a shadetree mechanic.
It would be much easier if you caould get a service manual or procedure printout just so that you don't miss any steps, especially when reassembling.
Hope this helps.
