Replacing the cigarette lighter

I need to know how to take out the old cigarette lighter of our 2000 Silverado. My son and his friend got their Ipod stuck in the lighter and believe me the cigarette lighter housing needs to come out now but we can't figure out how to do it. How do you get behind the dash or do we need to?
