Any special trick to replace the TPS on a DODGE 1500 2001 V6? 29,000 miles and the RPMS get stuck around 1500 when I throw in the clutch. (sometimes). I'm usually on the Xway stopping behind traffic or at a traffic light when it happens. Can't reproduce it in the driveway. Throttle cable and pedal linkage seem O.K.. So I'm thinking it's the TPS? Do I need to pull Batt. cable? I don't think there's voltage at TPS with key off.

No trick,1.just disconnect the electrical connector from the t.p.s.
2.Remove the mounting screws from the t.p.s.
3.remove the t.p.s.from the throttle body fuel injection pump.
When installing the t.p.s. be sure to align the socket locating tangs on the t.p.s.with the throttle shaft in the throttle body or fuel injection pump.
Be sure the throttle valve is fully closed when the t.p.s.is mounted. If it isn't rotate the t.p.s.to allow complete closure before tightening the mounting screws. If it is not adjusted right the throttle will be wide open if you're not careful.Hope this helps!

littlebit: Thanks......Helps a lot. I used to rebuild engines for a living back when the only emission control was breathers on valve covers. New stuff is a mystery.

Would that be the IAC you need to replace? More familiar with GM, but that sounds like an IAC problem instead of TPS. You can usually clean with throttle body cleaner.

Yeah that might even be it.

O.K. IAC = Idle Air Control. Where on my V6 do I find that little dude. I ran some Techron in the gas today and had no problem with surging during 120 mile trip. I did'nt have the time to replace TPS yet so I'd like to know where IAC is. Thanks for help.
