what mods save gas and what mods waste gas?

Well I want to know from people who have them..
I put a 1000 miles a week on my car and i was wondering what mods will make me gain mpg and what mods will make me lose mpg??

pretty much the only thing that will help gas consumption is an ignition with a capacative discharge system and it wont really even help all that much anyway if any at all. remember anything that flows more air will require more fuel to mix with it to make a perfect mixture. your best bet on keeping your mileage good is a very strict maintenence schedule. just a simple dirty air filter is good for a mile or two per gallon down the tubes.

the only way to save gas is to always service your car regularly and dont drive with a lead foot!

i can understand how intake could make your mpg go down but why would exhuast and a header those are just taking the restrictive factory stuff and letting the air flow more freely

If your looking for a few MPG i would recomend a MSD ignition system(or jacobs).
Better spark = fuel burned more complete and that = more horseposer for the same amount of gas.

also the reason that header and exaust do not = gas milage is because with them you are able to pump more air out of the engine. more air needs more gas to mix corectly and thus less milage.

Take out ur current engine and install a insight engine in it!

1. increase air pressure in your tires by about 3-5psi.
2. use 14" wheels/tires - less rolling resistance and lighter
3. use Fuel Injector Cleaner about once a month
4. use lighter weight oil - thicker oil uses more energy to flow
5. keep your windows rolled up. Cars are meant to be more aerodynamic with the windows up. With them down your car is like a parachute
6. don't use A/C
7. drive like a granny - don't shift over 4000 rpms
8. lighter exhaust, headers, and stereo system - weight uses more energy to push
9. cleaner car - is more aerodynamic and lighter. You'll be amazed how much dirt and grime can build up on your car
10. stop and go traffic will use more gas, and turning off and on your car too.

That's all I can think of. I get 34mpg with my 00 Civic Si :)

I know ac waste gas and putting the window down slows you down. Not by much i dont think but it still does.
It's a lose-lose situation on a hot day. Can't turn on the A/C becuase you'll be wasting gas and can't put your window down because you'll be slowing down ur car.

Just turn on your fresh air full blast. :)

Am I doing something wrong, I usually get 27 mpg if I am lucky in my Civic ex. In Houston so A/C is a must even in the winter sometimes.

And if those K&N filters and CAIs dont improve gas mileage then why do they claim they do?

naw, 27 mpg is fine!

My big problem is the windows. Any day its nice, the windows come down and most likely the moonroof goes up. I almost never use the AC, but the 99% city driving kills my mpg. I have a K&N filter, but its on the end of a short ram intake! Thus the mpg gain is negated, however, the HP and sound parts are totally phat!

And thanks for reminding me, I need to check tire pressure :)

Ah, spring break! I think I'll go out and wash my car to save $$ :D

btw- whats the lightest, quietest exhaust that you can get that's not a POS and doesn't cost over $500? I know there aren't many good ones under $500, but whats the lightest and quietest? And a link to it would be great.
