break ?

whats up guys, so i got a 98 blazer and right rear break was actin up, it seemed as if the break was stuck on the rotor. I took it to get fixed and the guy just changed the rotor the pads and i paid him 90 bucks for everything including parts. So i thought he fixed it but i start smelling the funky smell of metal or something and it seems as if the noise was gone but the break is still stuck

i take it back and the dude said that it was problably the break hose.
im standing there thinking werent you supposed to fix that problem. So he tells me he is going to try the hose first since sometime they dont allow the pressure to release from breaks. and if that doesnt work than he would replace the calipers. i couldnt find the hose at autozone, oreilies, or the dealer so i have to wait for the shippment for 3 days.

this really sucks especially the smell

anyone have a problem like this or similar?

Take it back to him and demand him to complete the job.

i will do that 1st thing tommorow morning. i hate the fact that he made me waste my time when the problem continues.

This sounds like a stuck caliper to me, or the slides (bushings) that the bolts pass through are stuck, causing a misalignment.

I afraid I don't understand the hose part. If the caliper was properly bled, the hose should be fine unless it is damaged or pinched.

If you remove the tire and have someone lightly apply the Brake pedal, you should see the caliper tighten and then release when the pedal is released. If not, your caliper might be stuck. (You might have to put a couple of the lug nuts back on to hold the rotor.)

Did you take this to a reputable garage?

I got a bridge for sale in Brooklyn,NY; I'll throw in a brake hose only if you purchase within then next 30 minutes.

Either your caliper is corroded (rear brakes don't function too often)
or your parking brake cable/caliper spring is malfuntioning. Exercise your parking brake numerous times while the truck is stationary, you may free it up. As Rick noted, have someone help you so you can watch the caliper for movement.

I had the same problem. whe he changed your stuff out, thhe didnt change the hose. the hose was collapsed nd therefore kept the caliper locked up. the same thing hapened to me, only my brakes caught on fire!

So your e-brake isn't working? Why didn't he replace/adjust the e-brake pads? Or did he disconnect it?

The caliper is stuck, take the caliper off and disassemble...and clean the sludge out of the piston. clean the caliper in a parts cleaner, and install a new caliper kit.

Also new pads should have been burnished in where the light apply the brake and score the pads.

A complete brake job is more than just replacing pads and turning a rotor...it's cleaning up the caliper..i.e. wire brush, cleaner, new o-ring, and cleaning out the cylinder.

Exactly, just because the smell went away doesn't mean the problem is solved. Your caliper is most likely stuck.

Take it somewhere that knows what their doing or you'll hate walking even more when your brakes fail and your ride is gone. Don't screw around with brake problems!

i was wrong the hose helped out a little but the caliper is still stuck because. i feel that my car isnt running like it used to it feels stuck and is not running smoothly. Im kind of short on money thats why i havent tooken it to have the caliper changed. Should i replace both rear calipers? Is this job pretty easy or does it take alot of time? Maby i can do it my self and save some money.

How much does a new caliper cost?
is there anything that goes along with the caliper that i should replace?

You don't need the caliper, you just need the slide pins... an 18mm box wrench and a hammer will do you fine. Spread some antisieze on the slide pins before putting them on. Slide pins are about 3 bux a piece.

Why didn't you get the mechanic to fix it?

It was his responsibility.

i had the same problem with my 99 blazer. i changed the master cylinder and the problem was fixed. it was the last thing i thought of. good luck

i didnt want to bother with him so i got with a friend and fixed it
autozone was charging me about 65 for 1 caliper though so i went to orilyes sp and luckily i found it there for 35.

but i gues we all learn from our mistakes, next time i will find a better mechanic or better yet do it myself
