straight pipes

i am considering gettin straight pipes on my 96 caprice...does anyone else have them.. and what will they do to my car

You'd get a little better air flow, but no huge power difference. It would sound pretty good though. ;-)

It is illegal here in California, becuase we have such strict laws about smogging vechicls. I dont know how it is in your state, but it could effect you not passing smog. Of course it will sound cool though.

i have str8 pipes on my carpce 1993 with 350 in it no cat pipes from headers back into 2 flowmaster 40 series mufflers with turn down tips (hidden) drink a lot less gas and sound like hell on wheels i have heard that u have to cut some kinda crossmember to make them fit but mines go right down passsnger side beside each other i havent had problems except when i first had them installed the check engine light would come on but cut off cark and crank it up no more light and it has all together stopped doing that now

staight pipes are illegal as far as i know in all 48 states.

Well in my area I truly wouldn't know I know its illegal not to have a cat on the car (which I don't have) the part that may be bad is that without that cat it'll never pass emmissions and u can't get a tag and therefore can't drive it but there are no emissions in my county so I'm great =)

I have straights on my '94 9C1, with no cats. Illegal as hell, but that's how I bought it. Only thing I hear is that the loss of backpressure might cause damage to valves and lifters. That's another question I'm going to post here soon.

I didn't know it could cause problems with lifter and I just got mines tightened 1 was clacking on cold morning starts tightened them all and thicker weight oil and it stopped
