1996 Aurora - I programmed a single remote for this car by installing a jumper on the DLC between 4 and 8. After the programming, the remote worked fine. The day after the programming, the radio stopped working (will not turn on) and the steering wheel controls for the radio and climate control do not work. The information center also displays "no date". Any ideas?

Do you think that after a day the two are connected?
Did you check the fuses?

Thanks for the reply. It wasn't actually a day but overnight. I checked the radio fuse (10amp) and it was ok. The reasons I think the two are related are: 1) the remote programming was the last change made; 2) the steering wheel controls (that don't work now) control both the climate control and the radio; 3) the radio will not power on; 4) the driver information center displays "date not found" when you press the date button. I have not checked any more fuses at this time.

As it is affecting the DIC and the steering wheel controls I would check for a fuse controlling them.
I can't find one in my 1996 manual sorry.
Did you use a fused jumper?

Thanks. I purchased the remote off EBAY and the instructions indicated I could use a paper clip, which I did. One other piece of info: the previous owner did not provide any remotes with the car. I assumed they lost them. Perhaps the car was not sold with them?

Thinking about it some more. This is the same problem that owners get when they fit a different radio. So I would check at the back of the radio where it plugs in maybe the plug is loose. If that is possible.

:2cents:Sounds like you shorted something out (maybe fried).
You are talking bout remote key lock & unlock doors?
NOT, Remote start (engine)? OK. now, after you replace the batteries in the keyless remote, to resynchronize the transmitter by pressing and holding the LOCK & UNLOCK buttons for eight seconds in range of the vehicle. Once the transmitter is resynchronized, the horn will chirp and the exterior lamps will flash once.:smokin:

Thanks for everyone's assistance. The problem is FIXED. There is a fuse under the passenger's seat that controls the radio and steering wheel controls--go figure. Nothing I could find in the owner's manual about this. It was just a coincidence that the fuse blew shortly after I programmed the keyless remote.

passenger seat as in (shotgun) passenger?
Or, is it rear passenger seat that the fuse was located?
