LOLLL, I can see it now, your dad watching the late night news on Channel 3 and the local "safety guy" come son and says he's got a new gadget to protect the kids, and your dad is all like "wow, with this I won't have to pay attention to what my son does, I can just plug it in and I can sit back on my ass, he'll be safe now!"

Those things are sad.

I hate parents like that, mine won't even bother spending money on that carp.
Here is what you do,
*Break in somehow with minimum or no damage, (wear gloves)
*Take out all the goodies (money, cd player or something like that)
*make sure to take this thingie out.
*tell your dad you've been robbed.

Or you can cut some wires to make it "not working" just make sure you cut where it can be resoldered/connected back.

whoa.. control freaks. sorry to hear about your dilemma... that really sucks. since it is a new thing.. for me at least.. we probably won't know a convenient way to deactivate off the top of our heads. I'm sure as time passes.. things like this will definitely be on the internet somewhere...

Try searching elsewhere... like one of those computer technical forums with a bunch of computer geniuses... haha

tell your dad he needs to chill out, because you only get to live once, and you have to learn from your mistakes, and then take the car chip out, and shove it right up his ass.

so he's MAKING you install this on YOUR car??? do you pay for everything?? insurance? gas? registration? cause if you do then he has ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to throw that shit on you. i'd be livid if my parents ever tried that shit on me

But you also have to consider his accomadations at home if he does live with his parents, if they're paying for his schooling, and shit like that. You know one of those, "As long as your living under my roof..." type a things that parents do. But yeah that sux ass.

And how exactly does the chip or whatever know when your on the freeway from the streets, unless it has a gps locator on it, which if it does, then your pretty much screwed and I wouldnt tamper with something like that(sounds expensive).

If your car is a 5-Spd you could disconnect the 4th And 5th gear sensors when you want to go out and go fast....but the ones we sell at sears "CAR-CHIP" arent for 240SXs. I wouldnt let my parents put it on my car without a fight unless they paid for it then crap.

Its only for a week? Not that bad. Just drive safely for a week and good bye gayness.

Now if it was for a while, I'd make a point of hitting 112 a couple times a day. "Hows that for control biatch?"

02-06-2005, 12:46 PM
ok heres what u do. sack up ur balls and take that little speed thing out throw it on the ground and stomp on it excessivly. repeat if needed. cause if u break it i dont think ur dad will waste the money to buy another one

i think you should tell him to be reasonable and not so anal.. there's a point where it becomes excessive and he's come to it..

U NEEED TO TALK TO UR DAD.
This is not about cars, but trust and maturity between a father and a son. The lack of trust will deteriorate in time if u don't confront ur dad.

That is sad man... I will never let anyone control me like that. (Having curfew and all is ok , but actually MONITORING my speed behind my back is utter gayness!!)

Really....

I though how many tickets you recieved was how your parents determined your ability to drive responsibly.

But then again, I guess that doesn't work either in my case.

After reading this post and all the replies it proves he has every reason in the world to install this... permanently! And if junior is under 18 or doesn't own the car he has every right! What a bunch of clueless kids baggin' on a Dad because he doesn't want his kid hurt or killed playing Dickie-Drifter on the street.
The CarChip sells for about $100 to $179 and it's a hot product so expect better and cheaper ones soon. It just plugs into your ODB2 socket and you can unplug it if you want. But it will record that as an event so your Dad will see it. It doesn't have GPS, it doesn't know where you are, it's just a 300 hour data recorder. Along with speed it records, rpm, brake pressure, gear, all the engine diagnostics and other user programmable data. It's mainly used as a diagnostic tool like a mobile scanner, not a spy tool. You might spend some quality time with your Dad and get him to show you all your cars parameters. Then maybe get signed up with the SCCA or NASA or any other local racing club with street divisions and take your $hit of the street.

Aww... He was even lame enough to use the money sign for shit... please, you may think your some cool SCCA dad or whatever but the majority of dads knowing what a Parameter is much less how to drive quickly is pretty low. But that would be a pretty funny conversation.

"hey dad, could you show me my cars parameters?"
"what?"
"ya know Like drive quickly and how to dodge cones set out in a parking lot"
"WTF? Get a job you mooching bastid."

Put it on your girlfriends car. tell dad you took it off "but decided it would just piss him off more so you put it back on."

first of all, its a BRUTAL thing to put on a car like a 240. don't come on here and tell us that he shouldn't drive it the way it was built to be driven. you're probably the guy who drives 61 in a 60.. i hate that guy.. on the same token, he should be mature enough not to 'street race' when there's a possibility of putting other people in danger.. i think its all about judgement and xcusememisswyn, you should have a serious talk with your dad. i'd be crushed if my dad didn't trust me like yours doesn't trust you. my dad was so happy when i bought my first car (i was 18) and even happier when i got my 240 cause he knew i was proving responsibility since we had lots of problems sharing cars.. cause he saw it as an opportunity to prove my responsibility. your dad should learn to trust you and just let go. i think you could have a legitimate argument with him without fighting about it. you have good reason to not want this stupid thing on your car. if you want it for diagnostics then cool. if he wants it to keep an eye on you, thats completely unreasonable to me. i sure hope he doesn't give you a curfew

dori? that's the nickname originated in japan for drifting. tsuchiya keiichi's nickname is "Dori Dori" or "Dori-kin"

anyway, this is a pretty ridiculous thread (especially with that grandpa poking around). I think your dad is just insecure or doesn't trust you at all... probaby for something you did in the past.

Of all the dad's i knew from friends/family no one has gone that far. I still remember when i was 15 and riding next to my dad on the way home... he was showing me how to do heel-toe on our 5-speed 2001 sentra w/ the sr20de. i was pretty flipped out but then i realized it was nothing since my dad grew up in Gunma-ken, Japan which is known for racing. He used to tune his twin-carb toyota mark II GSS... (the engine sounded like the ae86)... then after that he bought a soarer (FR lexus) from his boss. anyway, he even told me he's expecting me to bang the car up a couple times when i first got my license back in high school... haha but that never happened. My record is still perfectly clean... Ha.

anyway, i'm just saying the the car monitoring system is just boogus. It's restrictions like these that actually make teens go out and do stupid shiet.

it's nothing new that we're rebels at that age no matter what...

yah my dad put it in... he says its only for a week so i have been keepin any sudden speed bursts down... i dont even speed a lot but the 5-10 over that all of us do even pisses him off... right now i cruise control it everywher and just relax for the ride... if he flips shit after this week then ill take most ppl's advice and beat the little thing wit a bat...lol... thats what i should do anyway...

hes really strict about cars and stuff, he doesnt do much excitin wit them himself, but he pays insurance and lent me money to buy it (pay him weekly) so i cant do much to stop him, only seventeen...

i thought about changin the computer to OBD-I but if its only legal in some states, i live in NJ and u cant change ur shift knob without the gov raisin shit...
NJ's the worst, from the laws to the traffic circles and jughandles... it just sux

My dad encourages me to turbo my car.He even helped me remove the EGR valve from my first motor.

He got me the car for $600.Everything else I've done myself.I pay for everything for the car.
