For the do-it-yourselfer who doesn't wish to invest $30-$50 on a special tool for holding the fan pulley while its securing nut is loosened/tightened, consider improvising.
In my gallery you'll find the "special tool" that I made, from a piece of angle iron cut from an old bed rail. It's about 16" long. I notched one end, as shown, and drilled two holes that match the center-to-center distance between two of the bolts.
The "tool" is secured with two of the bolts, and is then used to hold the pulley while a wrench is applied to the large securing nut.
I made it, used it once, and no longer have any need for it - it's just a piece of scrap waiting to be used for something else.
