cooling fans

I have a 2001 Firebird 3.8 v6. Twice in two weeks the cooling fans have kicked on after about 20 mins of driving, shutting off and restart 5mins later. 1st time, only thing the shop could find was the computer told the fans to kick on, no why. His theory is to replace the thermostat and flush and fill. Any body else have this problem. (1st time was a week ago, he cleared the code)

those fans are designed to come on when the engine coolant temp reaches a certain temp, ! replace themostat flush and fill , check that no leaves/leaves etc are obstructing airflow through your radiator, also the on your belt tensioner there
is a mark to show if the belt is strecthed beyond its
range, other wise the senors could be bad , or even the water pump.
in the LAST case somethine more internal, but check the items above first, usually i avoid these type of cars and rip all that senor crap out , and go back to an old style water pump fan, but then again
I usually thrash the sixer to, some of the other guys may be a little more used to these lil engines

Thumpr. Those "lil engines" made 200 horsepower in stock form and gave the V8 mustangs made that same year a run for its money not to mention will take most stock 305 Third Gens but I do agree that it is sensor related. Either one sensor is incorrect and telling your car its hotter than it really is or like the mechanic said your thermostat isn't opening up to cool the engine and not cooling the sensor therefor tripping the fans. yep, Ive had a few firebirds, a couple with those lil engines, one ran really well top end on the interstate,
but the other my dog out ran to the bridge from a sitstill (leaving my house)
every time no joke
