If you have been following this or really just dont care, let me just fill you in. A few months back i let a guy "rebuild", so to say, my motor. To make a long story short he had the car for 6 months and now, only 600 miles later, the headgasket is pouring out oil. I'm not bringing my car back to this idiot even though it is under warranty, and besides going to court and all that mess i just want my car to run properly. That being said on with the question. I want to fix the headgasket myself but cant find any Chilton's or equivalent manuals for my vehicles year. The only ones i can find are for 90-94. Please help.

Chilton has a manual that is for the DSM family. it has all the Eclipse & Talon models in it from 90-99 (1g & 2g)
it has a pretty good explanation of how to replace the headgasket on any model you have, it was very helpful to me the first time I replaced my head gasket.

i believe i got it online, but you can probably get it at a bookstore, i've seen a number of them that sell the chilton manuals.

How long did it take you replace the HG your first time?

i don't remember. it's not that tough of a process though. it just seems long because you have to remove quite a few things before you can actually pull the head off.

I was looking at a Haynes Manual today and it seemed like it shows a step-by-step process, i think i'll use that unless anyone else has any better ideas????

yeah the haynes manual is a pretty good one too. i would use that if you don't have the chilton one.

hey there, i was just reading and i found this thread, and i tought u might be able to help me, ok, i recently got an eclipse 95, with 157 XXX miles, and i drove arround for like a week, and after a week i tought about doing the tune up, but i found out that there was only like about a liter of oil in the engine, after that, i put new oil on it, and a couple days ago i felt like my eclipse was being kinda slow, to accelerate, i took off the spark plugs, and found oil in 1 of them, i cleaned it, and worked perfectly fine, but now again, so i don't know what the problem is, some ppl told me the head gasket, some said the piston ring, thanks for help,

Is there any white smoke comming from you exhaust? When you look at your oil or your dipstick do you see any bubbles or anything? These would possibly indicate that you have oil and coolant mixing, which could be a Head Gasket

the oil in the sparkplug holes is the spark plug tube seals on the valve cover. get a new valve cover gasket and replace the main gasket and also the spark plug tube seals. get the fel-pro gasket, it's the best one, imo.

www.car-part.com you can get a lower mileage one for about $1000-1300 or one with around 100k for like $800. check it out, there's tons of them for sale. also an engine from a 2g NON-TURBO eagle talon will work and also from a 95-98 avenger. i'm not positive on the avenger years, but its around a 95.
