In my '87 GT that i just purchased i have a question about a flashlight looking object on the headliner of the car. I dont think it works, at least i can't seem to get it to come on, but my domelight works fine. Does it have something to do with the domelight or is this an aftermarket item somebody stuck in there?

It's a maplight.
Bulb may be burned out.
Also if not tightened up just right, the connection won't be complete and it won't work. It's just held in with 2 screws...take 'em out and you can remove the whole thing. The very end of the 'flashlight' unscrews and you can access the bulb.
You can pick 'em up cheap at a junkyard. Ford also put the same thing in Taurus'. Probably some other Ford's as well.
Handy little item to have around (esp. at night when you can't read your digital clock or radio station on your original radio since he hasn't lit up for the last 10 or 12 years :) )

Also try flicking the switch (little round button where the light snaps in) if it's not the bulb. :)
