2000 Tahoe - Fuel Pump???

Help!!!

I have a 2000 model Tahoe that started giving me trouble a few days ago. It wouldn't start on the first try, but every time, if you cut the key off then tried to start it, it would fire up immediately. After starting, it would run rough until you got it over 1,500 RPM, then run good the rest of the day.

The SES light came on, had it checked at Autozone, giving a lean code in both banks.

Checked fuel pressure, only getting 20 PSI at the rails, new fuel filter, still only 20 PSI. Replaced FPR, stil 20 PSI.

When you turn the key on, you can hear the pump run. I took the fuel line loose at the filter, hardly any pressure there when you turn the key on. Does this mean that I get to join the ranks of those who get to drop the tank and replace the $400 fuel pump? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if thats your problem or not, but IF you do have to do it, it is not as bad as all make it sound, if you have a few hours and can turn a wrench. Only "special" tool you would need is a $20 fuel line wrench (for getting fuel lines off) found at any parts store. The local dealer didn't have the pump ($400) but told me a local parts distributor that did. When I got there, he told me the wrong branch, so I had to drive to another one. They ended up giving me the part for dealer cost. It was only $178!!!!!! Had my buddy help me, and used a motorcycle jack to lower the tank (huge help!). Best to attempt when you have lowest fuel level you are confortable with. Although, I have heard from a garage the fuel keeps the fuel pump cool, so not to run it below 1/4 tank. If you are replacing it, you have nothing to loose by running the tank low with the old one in, but I wouldn't put a new one in, and start it right up, I would fill it some first.
