hey...that drift wasnt that long. It aint as good as the Jun's Yellow Evo 5. Now that clip was the ultimate AWD drift.

Feh, Makkinen is good, but if you want a real rally driver then look no further than Henri Toivonen, the late master of the Group B Lancia O37's and S4's.

Toivonen was the Gilles Villeneuve of rallying. Godly natural ability whose bounds we'll never know.

Wasn't his crash called the second worst crash in racing history? I know the huge one in the 24 Hours Le Mans was the absolute worst, but what about Toivonen's?.

I mean Jesus, the only thing left of his car was the damn frame. That's horrible. RIP Henri Toivonen, you had one hell of a run.

hmm senna and earnhardt (sp?) were pretty bad too.

Not interested in NASCAR so I don't really know as many details on Earnhardt.

Still, I did hear the other crashes were pretty bad as well. I just don't think there could be much worse than being burnt to a crisp inside a melting car. That seriously sucks.

nascar crashes can get pretty bad the worse ones aren't the 20 somthign car pile ups they are the brakes failing or ass end slaping around. Joe nemacheck(sp) 2 years ago at richmond had the rear slap out he still hasn't come back. I know he cracked part of skull, hurt his back *thinking somthing with a disc* broke a f*ck load or ribs and went through 28g's. Senna's wreak was idk tragic he had alot going for him. Although Rally drivers put there lives on the line most. Look at this years Monte Carlo Duval totally f*cked up the passenger side of his car when he his a concrete pole at like 100mph. Toni Gradenmister i think broke his arm when he rolled his car over then flipped it backwards. Last year Markko Martin broke his neck. Somebodys co-driver got impaled buy a metal rod that came up through the bottom of the car into his bottom. i can go on and on

Hey, at least they went down doing what they loved doing. Gotta respect that.

I'm done with this thread.

drifting in a rally is a lot easier than drifting on a track...watch drift bible, or better yet, IBM's touge challenges and you'll see what i mean...

most of the stuff used for drifting are rally principles (so is the gutter run - dropping the wheels of the track on the inside of the corners shaves a couple of seconds of times and makes them go a heck of a lot faster)

Umm... drifting in a rally is harder than drifting on a track. Mostly because a rally driver has to hit his marks exactly and still go fast. A doriftu driver doesn't have to go particularly fast, he just has to go pretty.

Also, Earnhardt's last wreck wasn't all that bad. He did go nose-first into a wall at a very high rate of speed, but it was tangential. However, he was not exactly in the prime of health and had no safety equipment other than the rollcage, the 5-pt, and the open-face helmet. If he'd had the Hans device, a closed-face helmet, a neck brace, and a modern seat, he wouldn't have died.
