I was looking at buying some movies off of ebay, when I noticed that VCD's are a LOT cheaper than DVD's. They say that they will play on my DVD player(Xbox).
My question is, "Does a VCD have the same quality as a DVD, or is is some kind of rip off like an *.avi or something?" If they play the same, I might get a few.
thanks guys.:alien2:

They're compressed. It depends on how picky you are. On my car's LCD monitor it looks okay, but at home on a bigger screen they look kinda cheesy.
But hey, if a VCD is $10, and a DVD is $38...

I have Broken Arrow, The Rock, Entrapment, Gone in 60 sec., along with 8 other titles on VCD and they are all as clear as our DVD's. The VCD format will mean nearly all the Movies will be on 2 cd's due to the smaller compression ratio compared to DVD.

it depends... cause all they are are .mpg files that people download and burn onto a cd in VCD format
i've burned a movie that way before so i could watch it in the dvd player
DVD is hell of alot better, it's crystal clear and has all the extra features too
a good VCD is like VHS quality

Humm ours seem to be very good quality. Much clearer and better sound than a VCR tape. Of course they are store bought VCD's instead of burnt ones. Now speaking of that I have Escape from Stockholm 1 & 2, downloaded mpeg's converted to VCD format and burnt and they are actually better than the down loaded ones go figure.

No worries KB... I have only been looking at store bought VCD's. I guess I will just buy one, and if I don't like it just turn around and sell it right back.

I didn't even know movie companies spend money to make VCDs??
I thought they're all just some how done by the person selling?
