Not as much a street racing story, but kinda...

I was driving a freind up to a compund (gun stores are never in regular stores...they are always in compounds...wtf?) to get some black powder for his pistol. The drive is mostly highway, so I decided to have some fun on the way up.

On the way up, we pass a highschool which is located on the highway, so the potential for highschool kids driving slow cars (slower than mine) thinking they are fast is high. We get a bite when I punch by a 97 Mustang V6 (Maybe it was burntrice?)...with a Fart can? Ok, thats just...yeah.

So anyways, I slow down to pace him at about 70, so I know I wont be able to 'talk my car into' downshifting into third in steptronic, so I just put it in 'Sport'. I'm sitting next to him, and he looks over to me, and my buddy just points and laughs. So he punches it, I hear the peppy little V6 'roar' to life with its 'uber performace exhaust modification' and punch it as well. I quickly walk by it and keep it till 85. However, before I could shut down, my buddy told me to keep on it, see how fast we could get moving. So I stay on it in Sport mode, thinking that I'll feel the ever remindfull slugish drain at 130 where I always thought I was governed.

However, I was wrong. I guess in steptronic, I just run out of grunt. At one point my buddy elbows me and says "shit dude, look at that." I'm about to say, yeah yeah I know, 130mph, when I look down. The speedometer is slowly clicking past 135...walking its way towards 140. Ok...thats new. I let off the gas, at 135ish miles per hour, the highway between me and my exit comes up much faster than it does at 70. So I'm guessing the govenor kicks in at 140, not 130. Oh well, one way to find out

nice kill....My Mustang tops out at 110 so yeah that guy didnt have a chance....Although once the limiter is removed the V6 tops out at about 125-130..Its always fun racing better cars even though you know your gonna lose....

Is it redline limited, governor limited, gearing limited, or drag limited?

Things do approach alot quicker at those speeds. I was testing my top speed on this long vacant highway..but at the end of the highway is a turn. So I'm accelerating. I'm at 140ish. And I notice...whoa, shit! the turn is right here! So I gently brake and take it down some..but I managed to take the turn at some 120mph. I'm just very very very lucky it wasn't that sharp of a turn or I'd have been dead meat. I stayed on the outside lane and then cut in on the inside lane and slid some around the turn. Scared the shit out of me. But I made it. I'll never ever do that again. I'll only go like...90ish on a public road now.

govoner limited...

governers suck...I think mine has a governer at 130...because it pulls well until I hit 4th gear at just over 125 and then it dies at about 130...I'm guessing it's either drag limited or it has a governer of some sort, definitely NOT redline limited(it maxes out at about 5100 rpms in 4th, redline is 6600)....although one time I ran just off my buddy's 2002 GT 5 speed's bumper, and he said he hit 135...I dunno, whatever lol.

i'm not sure if the max's limiter is like mine, but when i hit 120mph, the power cuts off the speed drops down to around 115mph before power comes back. its a abrupt stop like bouncing off the rev limiter hard.

streetracer, you say the car feels slower at 125 then completely stops at 130 means that the governor is at 130mph and that your just starting to run out of steam at 125mph.

Am I supposed to feel it when it hits the limiter? Because I sure don't...maybe the max is just drag limited...it has the aerodynamics of a barn door.

lol...your mom drives a ford contour, you drive a VR4...what's wrong with this picture? haha...it'll be a cold day in hell when I drive a nicer car than either of my parents, probably.

your max is already a pretty nice car, what kind of car does your parents drive?

anyways i think the limiter on the 5th gen max's are 135mph. i would have to confirm with this guy i know who works at nissan. but since you said you don't feel a jerk and lose in power then i'm sure you didn't hit the limiter yet. which means theres only one way to find out. you gotta try to hit 135mph. with yoru mods, you should be able to hit it.

Yeah, unfortunately I'm not as ballsy as I used to be in my younger years (ticket fear moreso than crash fear)...my mom drives an 03 explorer eddie bauer and my dad drives an 04 accord EX V6(sedan, yes I know, ugly)...even though I got the car new and it only seems like yesterday that happened, she's already 5 years old and showing her age...crappy nissan factory paint means there are scratches everywhere...crack in the dash from when I banged the cupholder against it to shake some pennies loose that had stuck to the bottom of it(bad idea)....plus I have a crack in the windshield that I'm too lazy to replace, and it isn't threatening yet(meaning it's still a linear crack, no evidence of "spidering")....from 10 feet away however when it's clean, it still looks new! lol.

It mostly has to do with my living arrangment...I live on a 38 acre farm(yeah yeah, laugh it up) and my car apparently isn't good enough for a spot in the garage, so it has to sit outside ALL the time, and take the full brunt from the forces of nature...at least that's where all the scratches come from.

atleast you don't live in nyc and have assholes hit you when they try to parallel park next to your car, and have some people just freaking leave their bumpers sitting on top of yours when they try to squeeze into a tight spot. or have people break into your car and steel your stuff or the the whole car itself, nor do you have guys that try to get out of a spot and miss alittle and nails the corner of your rear bumper.

again 99% of that has heppend to me. i have had a pick up truck back into me and dented my hood with his towling hitch, thats why i have to use a carbon fiber hood now, i've had people pull out and scratch the corner of my bumper, i've had people sitting on top of my rear or front of my bumper not even caring. and i've had people broke into my car.

the solutions are

1) i key up the car that sits on top of my car ( my friends just kick off their side mirrors )

2) flatten their tires for denting hoods or causing damage to other part of car.

3) don't leave stuff in car ever again.

now how does your car sitting out side sound compared to a car sitting in the streets in nyc sound?

Yo Tat, I feel ya bro. I deal with the same sh!t here. I've had people smack into me in traffic and then tell me to quit my bitching, it was just a scratch.......yeah but its on my freaking car!
I had a freaking cop open his door and bang it into mine! pricks I tell ya.

Well, I live in a small city and things are worse here. Just after I got the car, about 6 months ago, someone left a dent in my left rear quarter panel, and just drove off. Last night someone backed up into my left rear quarter panel, but at least this time I have their insurance, and my claim is being processed as we speak

I completely forgot about door dings, I have a grip of those too...considering how careful I am about getting in and out of my car in tight spaces, it's dumb that people are as careless as they are...I parked outside my friend's house one night on the street and when I came out, the left front bumper was all marked up and the paint was gone, I was like WTF is this shit?

a pitiful 105 MPH. The car has a ton of umph still too. I mean i literally slam into the rev limiter if im not watching it, and in my car, hitting the governor is a bad idea, its a fuel cut. So the engine runs instantly lean. But its not a big deal to me, i dont do many high speed races and my car isnt built for high speeds.
