i am looking at a 1999 GTP with 80,000 miles on it, 2dr fully loaded i think every option available, the guy said he would take $7500 for it, the book value is $9500, is this a risky deal? is there something in particular that i should look for before buying it? and what goes wrong with these things around that mileage, i never owned a grand prix, ive had bonnevilles and grand ams though. any thoughts please let me know.

Test drive and and feel how the trans shifts
Pop the hood w/ the motor running and listen to the blower.

Keep in mind too that when you listen to the supercharger it is not going to sound like most car motors sound. Perhaps that goes without saying, but when I bought mine a year ago I had never listened to a supercharged motor and came very close to not purchasing the car because of the "whoosh whoosh" noise, which I later learned was normal.
I'd say its a great buy, you should get it and enjoy it. :)

Take the car to "someone that knows". I paid a lot less then that. But also have done a lot to mine.
What Ripis trying to tell you is, that you are looking at one part of the motor that will cost you $1679.00 (for the part) to replace. The 3.8 is a great motor. You can get a lot of miles on them. They take a lot of beaten, with little care. Oil changes (motor and super changer). Tune up every 75,000 to 100,000.
And the price to get more power cheap. $250.00 will get you about 40 HP. Cheap.
Enjoy.
