I'm getting infinity kappa 693.5i 6x9 3-ways along with two sets of infinity perfects 5.1 5-1/4 components. My head unit is clarion dzx745mp. This being my first sytem i don't know much at all when it comes to amps or subs. That's where ya'll come in. What would brand of subs would you suggest? i think what i need is a multi channel amp for my components and 6x9's and a seperate amp for my subs. what should i look for in amps? i'll need 3 amps tho won't i because of how many speakers i've got? basically, having my set up with two subs, what do you need for amps? and if ya'll know of any tutorials on how to hook up the wires, that'd be great. i'm sure i could figure out how to hook it all up, i'd rather know for sure tho.
thanks ahead of time guys

Well, I will push DEI amps and subs. They really can take a beating and still perform wonderfully. As far as set up, it depends all what you want to spend. I usually do not amp the rear channels. I like to put more money in the fronts. So, a simple 2 channel amp like the 300/2 from Directed Audio works well. For subs, be carefull at what you look at for the amp. Some are single voice coil and some are dual. Some are 8ohm,4, and even 2ohm. That can mess up amps if you don't get the load right. The Directed 1500d is a monster that is 1 ohm stable. Doubt you want that kind of power but is nice to know that it is a classD sub amp which means is runs much more effecient than a class AB amp. Most noticable is that it won't get real hot and make the lights go with the beat of the music. Oh, it is a 2 channel amp but is designed to be bridged to one channel for subs.
4channel amps??? I usually like to stay away from them because they are expensive but if powering all the mids and highs is important, then maybe you'll want something like that.
Hope this helps :p

Well, i know i want a nice tight, crisp sound from my subs. I'm not sure i understand the differences between the single voice coil and dual. and the 8, 4, 2ohm is what? And yea, i don't need a lot of raw power, lol. I do want my bass to be strong though, since i'll be listening to Trance, Drum & Bass, and a little rock. I certainly don't need my amp overheating either. Suppose i just have an extra battery in the trunk, so as to not affect the rest of my electrics? Seems to me that from what you've said, i'll prolly just go talk with a professional before i order what i want. Are there any tutorials on how to hook up your subs and amps?
i do want to power all my mids and highs, i want it to have plenty of power and sound whever you sit in the car and not just with the front components. seeing as i'll have 6 speakers though, or should i say 8 counting the tweeters? i don't know if the tweeters should hook up to the amps either, but having 6 speakers, i would need a 4 channel amp and then a 2 channel amp, and then an amp for my subs?
I don't have too many other places to spend any money, so i'm looking to just get the best sound i can outta what speakers i'll have. i don't want to spend like 3 grand on a system tho either. i'm an consious of how much i spend...lol
thanks btw, i've posted on other forums, you're the only one to reply.

No problem. YOu just gotta get good equipment and you'll be fine. YES, amplify the tweets. To keep the gueswork out of it, get a componet set. They'll have a crossover that will direct the highs to the tweets and lows to the subs. http://directed.com/audio/speakers/default.asp
That's what I have in my Jeep and I love them. DEI also has some that the tweets are still attached to the woofer if you don't want to mount separate tweets.
Yes, you'll need one 4channel amp and a sub amp whether it be a 2channel or mono. For real tight bass responce, DEI is seriously a good buy. They like small, sealed boxes which is what you want to reporduce the bass that you listen to.

thanks. you've helped out a lot. i guess my last question is. will i need more than two amps? because i'l lhave two subs. a pair of 6x9's and two pairs of component speakers. so that totals to 6 speakers. so a 4 channel amp won't be enough? or is there a way i can hook them all up to to one 4 channel amp. otherwise i'll end up needing another amp. imma have lots of fun hooking all this up...lol.

All you're gonna need is 2 amps, 1 for your highs and 1 for your subs. I replaced all my highs with Memphis speakers and have a 500 watt Eagle Bass amp powering those and it sounds great. Then I have 3 Kicker comp 12"s with a 360k Kicker cheater amp powering those and it pounds like crazy. You are DEFINENTLY gonna need to get Dynomat or your trunk will rattle like crazy. Get a capasiter too so your electronics dont dim when your system hits and it doesnt kill your battery. You will really need to Dynomat the lid of your trunk ALOT because it took a crap load of it to finally get my trunk to stop rattling.....if you have the money I would suggest the Extreme Dynomat over the Original, but Original will still get the job done.

hahaha, thanks for the update Duff. i was looking at dyno matting my doors, i kinda figured the trunk would need something too. so say the original in teh doors and extreme in the trunk.
did you install your set up yourself? i was just wondering how hard it so pull out the dash. i didn't install my after market head unit, so i'm not sure how fun it'll be when i try to pull apart my dash.

I did the head unit and subwoofers and i had the place i bout my highs to install those for me because i had to rewire the whole stock audio set-up........ the dash wasnt hard to take apart, i thought it would be a pain too, but all u have to do is unscrew 3 screws on the plastic part under the steering wheel, un-hook the carpet then the big part that like goes around the speedometer and radio controls just pulls off and thats it then u unhook the fog lights and thats it.
Yeah original in the doors and extreme in the trunk would be great. Im still tryin to figure out how to keep my rear view mirror from viberating and pointing down when i have my system on.

hahaha, my rearview mirror does that and i don't even have a system yet. it fell off once right after i bought the car, i was like OH CRAP! lol, then i realized it slid right back on.
i was thinking i'd pull out the old wire and replace it with new wire, how long did it take them to install the speakers and new wire?

Breakaoss, well some people try to use a 4 ch amp for your kind of setup but I don't recomend them. Now, some 6ch amps are setup to run what you want but can be pricey. DEI has one and I have yet to sell it. Personally, I like to have a separate amp per pair of regular mids/highs and a dedicated sub amp.
Be careful on the Dynomat. There are much cheaper alternatives. Actually, a properly built system shouldn't need much in the way of sound deadening well, as long as you have a decent vehicle to start with.

how much does the 6ch amp run? seems to me it would be just as pricey to have a seperate amp for each pair of speakers. though it might be a nicer set up.
my vehicle is great shape. my reason for useing dynomat in the doors is mostly to cut out road noise. dynomat isn't that expense anyways. a 60 dollar kit should cover two doors i believe. if the trunk is going to rattle, which it sounds like it will, then i would certainly need something to keep the rattles down.

You'll be around the $800 mark.
$60 for Dynomat when you can use rubberized undercoating from NAPA for about $12

They replaced all my factory wire when they did the speakers, which you'll definently wanna do. They kept my car overnight and charged $200 for labor and told me it was a pain in the ass, so i think it was worth givin them $200 to do it themselves.
