How do you know the timing is correct? That's what I would check first. Does it have a carb? If so, I had a 305 with a Q-jet carb that was clogged and it wouldn't fire. Checking through the carb throats, I could see gas but it wasn't getting into the cylinders. Good luck

What happened lately to cause this. Did you do some work to it and then woudn't fire up after, or it just died in the driveway? Is it fuel injection or carb. Did you take off your distributor cap and turn the engine over to make sure your rotor is turning?

I actually just changed the motor because my brother has a heavy foot and doesnt know how to let off it when hes stuck :D it might be the carb i wasnt thinking of that. I noticed when i took out the spark plugs they where dry and you can smell gas like its flooded itself.

Could it possibly be a timing chain jumped a tooth? i dont know much about timing just that you need to have the rotar pointing at #1 piston and its there (and yes the rotar spin while rolling over) this motor has been the biggest pain in the ass ever (it is carburated i think its starts with a Querrla i think ill have to check it out when its light outside in a few hours then i can get the proper name of it

Quadrajet is the Carb. That's the Q-jet. Do you have a timing light? If not, I believe you can borrow one from Autozone. If not they are fairly cheap ($30). You'll need it. Get the timing correct and try again. If after you set the timing, the carb starts shooting up flames, your timing is off by 180*. It's tough to get it back to zero so I won't go there now. Check your timing then if you don't know the condition of your carb, rebuild it. Rebuilding the carb will get that engine running smoother anyway.

good luck

Was this motor you put in, a drop in, carb and everything. Did you hear it run before you changed it.
There can't be much wrong if it ran before or, you put the carb from the original motor on the new one and it previously ran ok.
The rotor can be pointing at the number one plug at two spots in the cycle. Make sure you have it the right one. Try taking the timer out(distributor shaft- that is , only if you took it out to start with) and spinning it half way in the other direction . Like Blabhern said the timing could be off 180 degrees.
Give as much info as you can because if your timing is close and you have fire and fuel , IT SHOULD START , maybe run bad, but still run.
